A Long Island man was arrested after stealing tips jars from two restaurants and a 7-Eleven in Brookhaven Town, and the Suffolk County police say that Laurence Reilly was using the money to support a drug habit.

According to cops, Reilly, 47, would order the food and, as the worker would work on his order, Reilly would run out with the tip jar. Reilly hit a Quizno's and a Chinese restaurant for their tip jars and took a 9/11 responders charity jar from the 7-Eleven. The Suffolk County Police said, "The stores had pretty good surveillance cameras so we were able to identify him. He told the arresting officer he was strung out on crack."

Reilly faces three counts of petty larceny.

  • What 7-11 has a tip jar? It's a convenience store... Does this article insinuate he stole the "take a penny tray"?

Not to be petty here, but it's "petit" larceny, not "petty" larceny.
