Watch Out For This Alleged Rapist Roaming Park Slope, Sunset Park

The NYPD is asking New Yorkers to be on the lookout for this guy, who's believed to be the perpetrator of at least four attacks on women in Sunset Park and Park Slope since March. In three out of the four assaults, his victims were able to fend themselves off, but police say that just before 3 a.m. on Saturday the assailant followed a 28-year-old woman into the vestibule of her apartment on 55th St. in Sunset Park and raped her. The NYPD also released a composite sketch of the suspect, whom police describe as Hispanic, between 25- to 30-years-old, about 5-feet 7-inches tall and approximately 165 lbs. At a press conference yesterday, NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly noted that he "has an Hispanic accent, but speaks English." Officials believe he first struck March 20th, when he attacked a 24-year-old woman on East 16th Street near Fourth Avenue in Brooklyn, pushing her to the ground from behind. She was able to escape with minor injuries, and that attack was documented in this chilling video:

On May 3rd, he allegedly forced a 32-year-old woman at knife point into a driveway on Ridge Bouleavard and attempted to rape her, but she fought him off. Then on May 29th, police say the same man grabbed a 20-year-old woman on 55th Street in Sunset Park at 10:30 p.m., pushed her to the ground and tried to rape her. She escaped with minor injuries. One tipster who lives on Prospect Avenue says there's been an increased police presence in his neighborhood, and writes:

We're on Prospect avenue, and tonight we saw a police cruiser for the first time in a LONG while. They were rollin' slow down Prospect, so my wife chatted with them for a few minutes. They were indeed from the [often absent] 72nd precinct. They were nice guys. I explained that I had heard an "attempted" rape, May 28th (she was screaming loudly and ran up Prospect Ave) and a bunch of good Samaritans and myself came to the woman's aid around 3am. We waited with her until the cops came.

27th and 4th is beyond this neighborhood really... this is the south slope. over their its sunset park/greenwood heights. south slope is generally really safe, I know since I live here. I can't speak much for your new area...

I think Gothamist got the first mention of 55th Street wrong. He did attack on 55th twice, but the June 4th rape was indeed on 27th Street near 4th Avenue in Greenwood Heights. I live on that block and got the same flier as Betty. I overheard neighbors claiming to recognize him; hopefully they call in whatever info they have.

I think we really need to look out for one another this summer. The cops can definitely help out, but it's the community that will be able to prevent another attack when it happens.

The police came to our door last night with the picture above and said he'd also raped a woman on 27th St between 4th and 5th Aves on June 4th. Odd that that's not mentioned above- is there more information elsewhere?

Given the times of the attacks detailed in the WPIX link, we know his work schedule: his shift ends at 11pm on weeknights, 10 pm Sundays, and maybe 2:30 on Friday & Saturday nights. Then he walks around looking for a victim for about 20 - 25 minutes...
