Video: David Byrne And Paul Simon Sang To Some Lucky Souls In Manhattan Last Night

Special Paul Simon concerts in New York City usually happen in massive spaces like Central Park, but last night the musician took the more intimate Webster Hall, where his pal David Byrne joined him on stage for "You Can Call Me Al," and "Road To Nowhere" (see Byrne take a graceful tumble in the former):

The first band that really blew me away was the Talking Heads at the Wollman Rink in 1980. I saw a lot of awesome shows that summer for free, sitting on the rocks behind the stage, but the Heads were incredible that night. Thanks for that video, it's great to see David and Paul Simon in such fine form.

I understand that Mr. Byrne does not drive a car.  Is that true?

  • Not sure if that's a fact, but I can certainly attest to Mr. Byrne walking to the venue yesterday... nearly ran face-first into him on 3rd Ave around 7 PM yesterday. Sadly my capacity for witty remarks failed me, and all I could do was smile blankly at him. Ah well. Next time I'll be sure to tell him how influential his music has been on my life.

I wonder if tickets for this were any less impossible to get than for Paul Simon's shows at the Beacon last month?

Actually, I had no problem getting tickets for this show via the BrooklynVegan presale, but I had to buy tickets for the second Beacon show from Stubhub after I got shut out during the onsale.

    Last night was better.
