Will Weiner Show At Today's Israel Parade?

Today the annual Celebrate Israel Parade marches up Fifth Avenue from 57th Street to 74th Street (hence the Empire State Building's colors last night) and the usual politicians like Mayor Bloomberg and Governor Andrew Cuomo are expected to show. But still up in the air is whether Anthony Weiner—who has been a fixture at the parade in the past—will peak his head out. Weiner, who canceled a speech on Friday to spend more time with his wife as Weinergate continues, represents one of the most Jewish districts in the country.

A rep for the parade was unsure of Weiner's status when we called and we haven't been able to reach any reps for the Congressman this morning.

Meanwhile the annual salute to Israel celebrating that nation's 63 years of independence is expected to bring in 30,000 participants along with live music and entertainment. If, for some reason, you want to watch but can't get outdoors on this beautiful Sunday, you can see the whole thing live on WWOR (Channel 9), or via this livestream.

  • Will he show?  More to the point, will he show his Weiner?

So this morning while going through my morning routine of browsing the Gothamist, I read the above article and clicked on the "live stream" link to the parade.
Fortunately for me, I visited the link at the right time (approx. 11:12am) to catch an awesome Israel Parade blooper.  Announcers, Becky Griffin and John Huddy were having pre-parade banter.  Griffin commented that parades always remind her of her first parade when she was a kid as she watched the "elephants take a shit before they walked down the street". John laughed and commented that perhaps that particular story is one to be left off the air.  Afterwards, Griffin reassured John that she knows how it works... when the camera man gives the "live" signal you can no longer say those words (as she proceeded to go into a George Carlin laundry list) "shit, fuck, ass..."
Unfortunately Becky, no one informed you that "live streaming" on the internet was active, HA! Good job and thanks for the morning laughs, genius.
