What's that strange shiny yellow orb in the sky? Could it be the sun? Yes it could and yes it is. A high pressure system has moved over the Northeast. That should bring us mostly sunny skies for the remainder of the work week. Most of the city should see highs around 80 degrees today and tomorrow. Places along the shore will be 5-10 degrees cooler as a sea breeze is expected to develop in the afternoon.

Friday could be even warmer, with highs in the mid 80s, as the awful storm system that's been plaguing the Midwest finally moves northeastward. That will send a shot of warm, humid air this way. As of now there's a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms for Friday night and Saturday. Saturday and probably Sunday are likely to be cloudy with highs in the lower 80s. Clear skies should hopefully return for Monday's double whammy of Memorial Day and Manhattanhenge.

Hurricane season officially starts next Wednesday. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is expecting a busy season this year. Appropriately enough this is National Hurricane Preparedness Week. Do you have a plan in case a hurricane approaches the city? If you prefer your death and destruction to come as a complete surprise, by all means support those members of Congress that don't want to fund new weather satellites.
