Teen Who Set Cat On Fire Sentenced To Six Years In Prison

The Brooklyn teenager who set his landlord's cat on fire because he was "bored" has been sentenced to six years in prison—and may also be deported. Angelo Monderoy, who was convicted of killing Tommy Two Times in March, also was denied the chance to have his record sealed by the furious Judge: "To torture and kill an animal because you were bored? There's no way the world should not know what Mr. Monderoy did here."

In 2008, Monderoy and a friend broke into an abandoned apartment in their Crown Heights tenement, doused the cat with lighter fluid, then set him on fire. During the trial, a recording was played in which the teen admitted he did it because he was "bored." "This was not a whim, not a fleeting decision in a teenager's mind," said prosecutor Josh Charlton.

Monderoy was convicted of animal cruelty and burglary (he was cleared of second-degree arson). This marks the first time that DNA evidence led to a conviction in an animal abuse case in the state, and possibly the country. Since he's already been jailed for more than two years while awaiting trial, he's eligible for parole, but will likely be deported to Trinidad once out of prison.

  • I am sure he will have fun with BUBBA in the communal shower....

  • Inconcievable de Impublishable

Why do we keep letting in people from Trinidad again?

  • billyjack55

I hate cats.  But I hate sick, twisted fu**s who would hurt a defensless being just for kicks even more.  Make him serve time, and when that time is up, deport him.  Levels of cruelty like that towards animals are sometimes stepping stones towards the same behavior towards people. Very creepy stuff.

Too bad we can't send this piece of shit to die of cholera in Haiti.

  • The point is, he's likely to get out on parole soon.  And being deported to Trinidad is hardly any punishment, it seems like a pleasant country.

  • ANGRYGOD11

If he wanted to live there, he could. If he doesn't want to live there, he won't get to decide. Thats punishment.

  • Michael Vick kills dozens of dogs over an extended period of time and receives less than two years in jail, plus he gets to return to NFL afterwards. This dumb schmuck kills one cat, gets six years in jail and then faces deportation afterwards. If only he had a nice jump shot (or was white)...

  • ANGRYGOD11

There isn't much of a demand for good jump shots in the NFL.

  • By the way, what he did was deplorable. Just pointing out that there seems to be discrepancies in sentencing based on the defendant's background.

    and financial resources-

  • I was using the term "background" more broadly... For example: "Vick's background as a rich and famous professional athlete made it easy for him to get away with minimal jail time"

  • winning1234

    Vick indirectly killed the dogs.

  • Seneca32

He admitted to drowning, electrocuting, and body-slamming to death some of the dogs himself..

  • Dead Himmler

I'm all for the occasional abuse of some pets but what this guy did is wrong. However I don't think he should have gone to jail. It is also a waste of taxpayers money.

  • winning1234

Let's wait until he becomes a serial killer first....

  • only 2 of the years are for animal abuse, 4 are for burglary. and it's concurrent sentences. but still glad he's in the shit for this

  • NlGGAZ

although I agree with punishment, I don't agree with the longevity. If the teen were a white kid like the kids who set the playground on fire they'd get off with community service.

  • last time i checked, playgrounds weren't living, breathing beings that could feel abuse.

  • NlGGAZ

Let me rephrase that, If white kids killed a cat they wouldn't get 6 years

  • philosophyexists

Have you ever heard of Michael Vick? Not exactly white, pretty much a slap on the wrist. But oh yeah, that was the NFL fame...
