Garbage Saves Baby Dropped Down Trash Chute

A newborn baby was recovered unharmed yesterday after being thrown down a trash chute in a Brooklyn housing project. The baby boy was discovered yesterday morning after a super heard him crying from inside the compactor chute. The baby was quickly fished out and taken to a nearby hospital where he appears to be ok.

While it is unclear how many floors the baby dropped, police suspect that the garbage may have helped break his fall. While the boy is being taken care of at Brooklyn Hospital, cops are canvassing the area around the building he was found in (as well as neighboring hospitals) for his mother. Understandably, neighbors the News spoke to were disturbed by the news.

This is the second time this year that a falling person has been saved by trash. After the December blizzard a Manhattan man tried to take his own life by jumping out of a window, only to land on a pile of garbage that had not been removed due to the snow cleanup.

When will they start putting birth control in the grape soda?

  •  How does this happen? I can't imagine being so desperate that I would throw my baby in the garbage. There should be mandatory mental health evaluations in this country.

maybe it was postpartum depression? maybe they should evaluate all new mothers esp. if they appear to be alone

That baby isn't out of the woods yet.

  • schmeep

Never was in.  It was a garbage chute, not a forest.

  • Mr Mel

I believe he's out of the garbage and now he's in the woods.

Our baby fell out of the window
You'd think that her head would be split
But good luck was with her that morning
She fell in a barrel of
Shaving cream, be nice and clean
Shave everyday and you'll always look keen

I only type LOL if I actually LOL.  LOL

It's shit like this that makes me wish Armageddon actually did happen.

  • I love their music! They save babies too?

  • That said, I know it sounds like a commenter's cliche, but don't people know/realize about the safe haven program?  For God's sake, if you don't want the baby you can give it up for adoption, maybe even have parents pay for certain things.  Just awful and ridiculous.

  • What the hell is it with Gothamist and awful comparisons?  First yesterday, comparing McDowell's and Dykstra's behavior to Gary Carter's brain cancer, and now a light-hearted reminder that an intended MURDER of a baby is comparable to a suicide.  Come on.  Seriously?

  • Yeah, that last paragraph was unnecessary.

A person fell from a remarkable height & landed in trash.

Seems like a fair comparison to me.

  •  One fell, one was pushed.

  • aloveston

    Garbage saved them both.
