2011 hasn't been very kind to many members of the Mets 1986 World Championship team: Lenny Dykstra had his naked rubdown job interview mess, Roger McDowell apologized for homophobic slurs, and now, worst of all, Hall of Fame catcher Gary Carter has been diagnosed with brain tumors.

"Earlier [Friday], I learned that four very small tumors have been found on my brain," Carter told reporters yesterday. He will go to Duke University Hospital next week to determine if they are malignant, and what treatment he will be receiving. Carter, a former Mets announcer who has been managing at Palm Beach Atlantic College this year, hit .262 with 324 home runs and 1,225 RBI in a 19-year career with the Mets, Montreal Expos, Giants and Dodgers. Carter, who won his only World Series with the Mets, has previously expressed interest in coaching the Mets someday.

He was the first catcher I saw as a child when my father took me to my first game many years ago. I only played a catcher position with him as my idol growing up. Good luck Gary!!!

  • Did you just seriously compare uncivilized behavior to HAVING BRAIN CANCER?

For real. A truly pathetic attempt to connect dots. Good luck to you Gary. And RIP Tug.
