One man is dead, another is clinging to life and a woman is in the hospital with gunshot wounds this afternoon after police on Staten Island became involved in an apparent armed robbery there. The violent series of events took place at 115 Collyer Avenue in Annandale and started around 12:30 p.m. when police were called to to stop a "push-in" in progress.
While police were on their way to the scene it appears that the assailant shot the couple who lived at that address, whom the police think may have been his previous employers. The man was shot in the head and is in critical condition, while his wife, described as a woman in her 50s, was shot in the abdomen and was eventually transported to a hospital where she is reportedly in stable condition.
Before that, though, the police arrived at the scene and “observed that the assailant was still inside the apartment,” according to NYPD spokesman Paul Browne. When the police got in, the shooter “initially pointed the gun at his head and then turned and pointed it at the Emergency Service Unit officers,” according to Browne. And after “he refused repeated commands to drop the gun” the police shot and killed the currently unidentified man.
It is currently not clear who fired first or how many bullets were discharged, Browne told City Room.
