NYPD investigators are looking into whether 19-year-old Michael Muniz got special treatment by the NYPD after a hit-and-run that left a Radio City Hall usher with a broken leg. Muniz's mother Alice happens to be a NYPD officer, and a police source tells the Daily News—you're not gonna believe this—someone may have done a favor for Muniz, who was only issued a desk appearance ticket after finally turning himself in last month, 11 days after the accident. Internal Affairs is investigating, and you can be sure they'll leave no stone unturned, because Muniz's mom works in Internal Affairs.
"I don't care if he's related to the President," Felipe Diaz, a 41-year-old usher at Radio City Music Hall tells the News. "Nobody is above the law." (Sweet kid, right?) Diaz was hospitalized for ten days after the accident, which took place at West 107th Street and Broadway. A friend who was with him at the time says Muniz and the passenger in the car (which belonged to his mother) both got out after Diaz was run down. After taking a look at Diaz writhing in agony in the street, they got back in the car and sped off, according to the witness. Sources say Detective Muniz, who is also the president of GOAL, the Gay Officers Action League, is "well-connected."
"I can't enjoy my life," says Diaz. "I can't go to work. But my case doesn't mean much to the Police Department." Oh, that's not true Diaz—we're sure somebody got some sweet Yankees tickets out of this!
