A city bus is sitting at 6th and West 36th in this Googe Street View
Yesterday afternoon, a 19-year-old man jumped from a building near 36th Street and 6th Avenue in Midtown and hit a city bus. According to the Daily News, "The QM1 bus, empty except for a driver, was parked along Sixth Ave. near W. 36th St. when the suicidal 19-year-old smashed into the edge of its roof, a transit source said." The bus was on a layover and not in service; the driver was not injured.

The teen ended up on the sidewalk. The scene remained blocked off for hours, and witnesses could see a big dent in the bus's roof. One told us that the police used a restaurant's barriers to cordon off the body—and the barriers happened to say "Have a Nice Day!"

Apparently the teen was "distraught over a recent breakup," per the News' sources.

This reminds me of my uncle who died at Auschwitz. He fell out of his guard tower.

  • all this going on between all of you guys is so funny hahaha.
    just don't kill each other.

wow! lots of anger.... ok let's fix this up...

the girl... SMART! hope she ran away with no in person good byes.. she was not a victim. (as to whether she was a leather clad sadist that is another question, not answered)

the boy .. really dumb.. never kill yourself over a girl.. or money.. or being exposed as a [insert worst thing ever here] just DON'T do it.

(I know mentally ill people don't see it that way but please take another look)

the boy.. really dumb because he easily could have killed several people.. and worse! he made the people on that bus late. If he was having a hard time figuring out how to kill himself... see above.

some people on this site.. dumb! and angry. no need to beat the boy to death as he is already dead.

    be careful out there people.

  • These comments actually scare me.

  • What a damn shame that a young man took his own life over a woman. It is never worth it especially at 19. Females aren't sh** compared to your own life.

  • justthinkin

Not for nothing, but suicide is a narcissistic act. ..do you really think that this guy had anyone else on his mind when he took that last step? No, in the end, the only thing going through his mind was the MTA logo on the side of the bus.

  • ItchyGoiter

Agreed. He didn't care enough to save his own life, what makes you think he would care about anyone elses? It's actually pretty understandable.

  • Sucks when you catch a bus and it is out of service :p

  • OrlandoOzio

Yes, but did this inconvenience bicyclists in any way?

  • Rammy

This is around the corner from my wife's office and an incredibly busy street, so yeah, kill yourself in your room or out in the woods or something. In that photo you can see the deli/diner that usually has outside seating in warm weather behind the bus. My wife and our 5yo kid had a lovely lunch at one of those outside tables just last week.

So, do not leap off tall buildings in busy streets or jump in front of trains or hang yourself in a children's playground, etc.

Any sympathy or compassion a suicide may garner for their obvious anguish and assorted issues is lost when they put others at risk.

Don't forget "never jump off a bridge." That makes rush hour miserable for hundreds of thousands of people and inevitably leads to more late spouses, domestic disputes, homicides, and suicides.

Seriously, I know suicide is a cry for help, but do it in private for crying out loud.

    Was his girl hot?

  • Guest

    "too hot to handle"

    ugh... i hate sick jokes.

  • Guest

And now he's "too cold to hold".

  • felixthecat

    You're lame.

  • Guest

And so is your penis, so what's new?  If you consider me lame then I must truly be awesome!  You and your dumb as rocks comments sometimes make me question if humans are superior to animals because you're able to use a keyboard and yet you also fail to comprehend basic concepts such as the difference between English and whatever it is you profess to speak. So, it makes me think you belong with your kind, the ones in the wilderness that can't understand speech or don't know how to build a computer or have no clue what nihilism is. You're a pathetic excuse for a human being, so walk far into the nearest forest you find and live the rest of your days there amongst the inferior fauna.

"... fail to comprehend basic concepts such as the difference between English and whatever it is you profess to speak." - love it

Rudy, do you even have a reason to comment here, or are you just commenting here for the sake of picking a fight with Cowboy, or are you just commenting so you can say you don't just comment on the animal-related articles here written by Carlson?

BTW, I was youtubing last night, came across this mercy kill Buck McNeely made on an elephant in Africa. Clean shot right between the eyes. Elephant was in a lot of pain so it was the moral thing to put it out of its misery. The bullet was named Felix.

  • Guest

His name's Rudy?  That explains the victim complex he has.

I love the elephant story.  It's poignant and yet insanely funny because of the bullet's name.

Yes, his name is actually Rudy (I only wish I were kidding). Last year he tried to friend me on FB on a decoy account I made specifically for that purpose, where he thought I was some pro-PETA, anti-Bloomberg blowhard and I saw his whole profile, except a pic of him which wasn't posted. His entire profile was basically dedicated to joing groups that were actually PRO Quinn, Bloomberg, etc., JUST so he could see the walls of those grous and also have the ability to pelt them with ANTI Quinn, Bloomberg, etc. sentiments
When I made it clear on here and exposed his name, he went ape shit and tried calling the law firm I work at (the H.R. manager did call me, though, just to clarify it was in fact me, but nothing was made of it, despite his lies that I was fired) .
You want some more irony? He was born in the Philipines, which is home to some of the most blatent human rights violations and animal torcherers (the eat horsemeat and duck fetus regularly there you know).

That also explains a lot. Classic rebellion against parents and their culture. The problem is when rebellion turns into extremism, especially his type of extremism which manifests itself through slander, libel, litigation, and grand standing.
