Chris Simms' Stoned Driving Trial: Fasten Your Seatbelts

050311Simms.jpg
Via Manhattan District Attorney's Office, Night of The Living Dead
Facing charges of driving under the influence of marijuana, the trial of former Titans quarterback Chris Simms began yesterday with arresting officer Frank Acosta testifying that the son of Giants legend Phil Simms was "very, very unsteady on his feet" after being pulled over on West Houston street last summer, the Daily News reports. This was fairly vanilla compared to the things Acosta said during a pre-trial hearing, among them that the smell of marijuana was "coming from his breath. I had a headache. Even my tongue got numb…He was like a zombie." While we can't vouch for marijuana's ability to morph into garlic, we can say that Simms' mug shot is a tad damning. Maybe he's squinting because his future's so bright? Oh.

Harvey Steinberg, Simms' defense attorney, told jurors that it wasn't Simms, but his friends who were smoking, and that the 30 year-old would have never gotten behind the wheel in that state with his pregnant wife in the backseat. "There were no questions, no investigation, just off to jail with Chris Simms," Steinberg said. One of these "friends" is set to testify that he was in fact The Smoker. Look out O.J., I think America just found its new Trial of the Century.

Typical response from someone that has NO legitimate argument!

It's really sad when people gripe about something and CAN'T EVEN COME UP WITH ONE LEGITIMATE REASON to support their position.

Good luck with your drug war propaganda parroting but every time ANYONE learns the honest facts, that's another vote to LEGALIZE! Well, in all honesty, it's another vote to LEGALIZE 80% of the time. The other 20% are completely brainwashed by drug war propaganda lies, they are addicted to the drug war to the point they can't even think for their self on this subject and they need professional help.

    Which category are you in?

  • PicoPhreako69

"Got any on topic questions or concerns that don’t include personal attacks?"

Again, I giggle at your unshakable enthusiasm.

I am reminded of Churchill's apt quote:

A fanatic is someone who can't change their mind and won't change the subject.

In conclusion, I see I cannot say anything one way or another to conform with your reality -

we'll always agree to disagree. I raise my Adult Beverage to you!

    Annnnnnd scene.

Cut, print it. It's a wrap.

    Dude, where's my dad?

  • jsknow

How much longer is the public going to put up with reefer madness LIES?

"very, very unsteady on his feet"? That's caused by alcohol but NOT by pot!

The smell of marijuana was "coming from his breath" but not his clothes and hair? This cop needs to learn that marijuana is detected much differently than alcohol!

"I had a headache"? That's strange! 15 States and Washington DC have bucked the Feds and now allow marijuana for medical use. One of the things marijuana TREATS is pain! "I have a headache", might wok for your wife cop, when you're trying to have sex but it's not proof someone you're talking to is under the influence of marijuana!

"Even my tongue got numb…He was like a zombie." Marijuana DOES not cause a numb tongue from talking to someone that used it! It DOES NOT cause people to turn into zombies either!

Now that this cop has established himself as a LIAR, the judge should throw the case out! Did this cop say ANYTHING truthful?

“What about marijuana causing car accidents?”
THE JOURNAL OF PSYCHOACTIVE DRUGS, HARTFORD HOSPITAL IN CONNECTICUT AND THE UNIVERSITY OF IOWA CARVER COLLEGE OF MEDICINE document that MARIJUANA DOES NOT CAUSE DANGEROUS DRIVING:
http://peaceandloveism.com/for... (read the article not just the link!)

Google MARIJUANA DRIVING STUDY. You'll see 2 common findings:
    1. Drivers under the influence of marijuana are VERY SLIGHTLY impaired.
    2. Unlike those under the influence of alcohol, marijuana consumers are aware they are VERY SLIGHTLY impaired and they CONSISTENTLY ADEQUATELY COMPENSATE by slowing down a little and being a little more cautious. That doesn’t mean they get in the fast lane on the interstate and drive 15 miles per hour. Marijuana makes you cautious, not crazy! Those Cheech and Chong movies were comedies, NOT documentaries officer!

    http://www.jackherer.com/thebo...
"In the 1920s and 30s, Hearst's newspapers DELIBERATELY MANUFACTURED a new threat to America and a new yellow journalism campaign to have hemp outlawed. For example, a story of a car accident in which a marijuana cigarette was found would dominate the headlines for weeks, while alcohol-related car accidents (which outnumbered marijuana-connected accidents by more than 10,000 to 1) made only the back pages. This same theme of marijuana leading to car accidents was burned into the minds of Americans over and over again..."

The only marijuana/driving issue that matters is: Does using marijuana cause accidents? The answer is: NO! That's a fact not an opinion, no matter how many anti-marijuana propaganda news articles try to make you buy the LIE!

Was this a problem caused by marijuana or marijuana PROHIBITION? The vast majority of problems attributed to marijuana are actually problems directly and completely caused by marijuana PROHIBITION!

How many more lives have to be ruined by marijuana PROHIBITION before We The People step up and legalize marijuana?

Once they know the truth 80% favor legalizing. Fact not an opinion! That statistic comes from Law Enforcement Against Prohibition (LEAP). After they attend a LEAP presentation 80% of Law Enforcement support legalizing. I suspect support among the public is even greater once they know the truth about marijuana and marijuana PROHIBITION.

What % of marijuana consumers beat their wife because of the effects of marijuana? What % of marijuana consumers go to a marijuana party and end up in a fight because of the effects of marijuana? What % of marijuana consumers get in a drunken stupor and spend the night in a gutter? What % of marijuana consumers pass out and stay right where they fell long after they soil their pants? What % of marijuana consumers end up choking to death on their own vomit? Exactly 0%! Marijuana is no different than alcohol? Who are you kidding? No one that knows the truth!

We The People must demand our Constitutional rights! How can the Federal Government provide marijuana to a few medical patients, at taxpayer expense and simultaneously criminalize everyone else that possesses this nontoxic plant? That's UNCONSTITUTIONAL, it's covered in the "Equal Protection Clause" of the Constitution!

The Constitutional right to freedom of religion, free speech, a free press, to keep and bear arms, to be secure in your person, house, papers and effects against unreasonable search and seizure, to life, liberty and property, to be protected from having your property taken by the government without due process of law and without just compensation, to confront the witnesses against you, to be protected from excessive bail, excessive fines, cruel and unusual punishment, to vote and others have been unjustly denied to tens of millions of Americans in the name of marijuana prohibition.

The Federal Government is conspiring with pharmaceutical companies, alcohol companies, tobacco companies, petroleum companies and other crooked corporations, to use unconstitutional Federal marijuana prohibition laws to insure that you needlessly buy products that have been proven beyond any shadow of doubt to be harmful and often deadly, instead of allowing you to legally grow and/or buy a nontoxic plant that is safe and effective. Meanwhile uncle SHAM forces unconstitutional healthcare legislation on you and threatens to severely punish you if you don’t buy mandatory health insurance.

It's time to throw some THC in the harbor, so to speak! The Tea Party is the largest NONPARTISAN grass roots movement in the history of the USA! It was started by Ron Paul supporters. In a more informed Country, Ron Paul would have been our president long ago! If we're lucky enough to have him on the 2012 presidential ballot, every Constitution supporting American is well advised to vote for him! He weighs EVERY vote he casts in Congress strictly by the Constitution and his voting record proves that beyond any shadow of doubt! If he can't find Constitutional authority for a Federal law, he votes against it. If they won't let him read a proposed law, he votes against it! Search for: "Ron Paul 2008 presidential debate" on youtube.com and listen to his words, straight from his own mouth. He was right then and he still is! The main stream media attacks him because the MSM is owned by the same small group of banksters that owns most of our crooked politicians! Don't vote for who the MSM tells you to vote for unless you want more of the same crooked Constitution shredding politicians we have right now. Ron Paul has said many times that drug laws are a State issue. Put him in the Oval Office and you'll see the Federal Government govern Constitutionally!

On March 22, 1972 the Richard Nixon-appointed, 13-member National Commission on Marijuana and Drug Abuse recommended the decriminalization of marijuana, concluding:

“[Marijuana's] relative potential for harm to the vast majority of individual users and its actual impact on society does not justify a social policy designed to seek out and firmly punish those who use it.”

In 1988, after reviewing all the SCIENTIFIC AND MEDICAL EVIDENCE presented in a lengthy lawsuit against the government’s prohibition of medical marijuana, the DEA’s own administrative law judge (Judge Francis Young) wrote:

“MARIJUANA, IN ITS NATURAL FORM, IS ONE OF THE SAFEST THERAPEUTICALLY ACTIVE SUBSTANCES KNOWN. IN STRICT MEDICAL TERMS, MARIJUANA IS SAFER THAN MANY FOODS WE COMMONLY CONSUME.”

FEED YOUR SEEDS TO THE BIRDS! Let them do like George Washington said and "plant it everywhere".

No matter where you stand on the issue of legalizing marijuana everyone should read:

If you think marijuana prohibition has anything to do with the imaginary, false, fabricated, alleged harms from using marijuana as a recreational drug, YOU HAVE BEEN DUPED!

  • PicoPhreako69

    tl;dr.

Perhaps 'the herb' was as non-dangerous as people say it is back about 40 years or so, but since then? with all the cross-breeding to increase the THC levels? Nuh-unh. This ain't your granny's weed anymore, it's FrankenWeed. Include me out, kthx.

  • jsknow

"FrankenWeed" LOL, how about we stick to the FACTS, okay? There's been far too much reefer madness, "the sky if falling", misleading propaganda.

The truth is, more potent pot is actually SAFER pot! When it's more potent people inhale less smoke to get the desired effect.

Marijuana itself is nontoxic! The only possible health harms come from the carcinogens produced when marijuana is burned but even health harms from these carcinogens is still being studied. So far the SCIENTIFIC evidence is showing ingredients in marijuana prevent the harms burning it produces.

Virtually all the drug war propaganda is nothing but pure lies. Marijuana does not cause aggressive behavior. Marijuana does not cause dangerous driving, Marijuana does not cause cancer, brain damage or any serious health problems. Marijuana prohibition does not keep kids away from marijuana, illegal dealers don’t ask for ID.

There is MUCH evidence supporting this! Here are a few links to some credible information, you may find interesting:

You can only get just so high from marijuana, NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU CONSUME OR HOW POTENT IT IS!

To get anything more than a very mild euphoric effect takes more than a human can possibly consume!

Judge Young's "Opinion and recommended ruling, Findings of Fact, Conclusions of Law and Decision of Administrative Law Judge", also said:

"7. Drugs used in medicine are routinely given what is called an LD-50. The LD-50 rating indicates at what dosage fifty percent of test animals receiving a drug will die as a result of drug induced toxicity. A number of researchers have attempted to determine marijuana's LD-50 rating in test animals, without success. Simply stated, researchers have been unable to give animals enough marijuana to induce death.

    8. At present it is estimated that marijuana's LD-50 is around 1:20,000 or 1:40,000. In layman terms this means that in order to induce death a marijuana smoker would have to consume 20,000 to 40,000 times as much marijuana as is contained in one marijuana cigarette. NIDA-supplied marijuana cigarettes weigh approximately .9 grams. A smoker would theoretically have to consume nearly 1,500 pounds of marijuana within about fifteen minutes to induce a lethal response.

    9. In practical terms, marijuana cannot induce a lethal response as a result of drug-related toxicity."

    Any questions?

  • PicoPhreako69

    Again, tl;dr.....

Anyone else ever notice that those who indulge in various controlled substances seem to evangelize everyone about 'em?

Enjoy your eventual pot-induced paranoia (which I seem to see already creeping in around the edges of your posts). Me, I'll stick with occasional cocktails. Hey, the Queen Mum lasted to 101 because she was nicely pickled - that's good enough for me.

    0>:>)=

  • jsknow

Anyone else ever notice that those who complain about people posting FACTS never have a legitimate complaint against the FACTS, so they try and attack the person that posted the FACTS?

If you only want to consume substances your government gives you permission to, instead of having sovereignty over you own body, that's your choice. Maybe that's why you look to "the Queen Mum" on how you should live your own life. I will however point out that there was at least one "Queen Mum" that used marijuana to help her deal with her "monthly visitor".

By the way, your drug of choice alcohol, kills well over 100,000 people here in the USA every year, from nothing more than consuming it! Alcohol is TOXIC! Marijuana is NONTOXIC!

NO ONE, OF ANY AGE, IN ALL OF RECORDED HISTORY, ANYWHERE ON PLANET EARTH, EVER DIED FROM CONSUMING MARIJUANA!

If you think educating people about the FACTS shows "pot-induced paranoia" I suggest you get a mental checkup, or perhaps you should be more honest about the amount of alcohol you’re really consuming. Obviously something is clouding your judgment.

Have a nice day! Tootles, bottoms up and all that bloody rot!

  • PicoPhreako69

Ahhh, I giggle at your passion, sir &.or madam! Methinks thou dost protest wayyyy too much.

Let the record reflect that none of my statements "attacked" you - this being Amurca, you are free to ingest & believe whatever you wish! I'm down with that.

That being said, 'facts' are always damn tricky things. Kind of how it was a known fact the sun revolved around the earth until some guy named Copernicus found otherwise. Again, believe what you will - no skin off my nose one way or the other. Agreed, Victoria did inhale - but as you correctly point out, that was but once a month. Also, I've never "looked to" anyone's habits or behaviors to model myself after - just sayin'

Seeing how it IS after 5, a cocktail is indeed in order! I raise a gimlet in your direction! Cheers. 0>:>}=

    And I'm ouddaheah....

  • jsknow

Again, let’s stick to the FACTS. You did attack me by attempting, ever so pathetically, to discredit me and what I posted, through your use of distraction from the topic, speculation based solely in stereotyped generalization, outright disinformation, assumptions and innuendos. Since this additional character flaw and the fine art of healthy rational respectful debate has escaped you, allow me to elaborate for your enlightenment:

You said: “Perhaps 'the herb' was as non-dangerous as people say it is back about 40 years or so, but since then? with all the cross-breeding to increase the THC levels? Nuh-unh. This ain't your granny's weed anymore, it's FrankenWeed.” This statement of yours is absolutely false and is very typical of anti-marijuana propaganda designed to promote the ignorance of the public and reinforce the anti-marijuana propaganda lies and fear mongering which led marijuana to unjustly and unnecessarily become illegal and to remain illegal at the Federal level since 1937. Even with all the FACTUAL SCIENTIFIC AND MEDICAL evidence I posted in reply, you posted no retraction of your false claim, much less, express any gratitude for me taking time to provide you with links and information, which should have helped you not show your ignorance on this topic in the future, had you considered the information and grown intellectually aware because of it.

Then you said: “Anyone else ever notice that those who indulge in various controlled substances seem to evangelize everyone about 'em?” In this question, you didn’t provide any rational reason why my arguments on the subject shouldn’t be accepted, instead you attack me personally in a round about way by implying that since I made statements and posted factual information overwhelmingly supporting the repeal of marijuana prohibition, I must be a marijuana consumer seeking to “evangelize” (persuade others to consume marijuana). You also implied, quite wrongly, that only “those who indulge in various controlled substances” would speak out against the unjust wasteful harmful prohibition of marijuana. You don’t know me, or anything about me except that I post valid reasons to repeal marijuana prohibition, post factual credible links to additional information and that I’m obviously a lot more well versed on this topic than you.

Then you posted: “Enjoy your eventual pot-induced paranoia (which I seem to see already creeping in around the edges of your posts).” Another wrongful assumption on your part, another attack on me personally, more unjust belittling and another false statement posted purely as an off topic personal attack, which neither disproved anything I posted, nor provided any valid reason whatsoever about why anyone reading it should abandon nontoxic, non-addictive non-harmful marijuana, in favor of your toxic, addictive, accident causing, violence causing, hangover causing, liver damaging, divorce causing, drunk driver causing, drug of choice, nor a reason why marijuana prohibition should continue, nor even a reason to abstain.

The “paranoia” associated with marijuana is very temporary, occurs ONLY while under the influence of marijuana, is so mild and so short lived that it’s a common source of humor among marijuana consumers and has never been known to have any serious effects on anyone whatsoever. Despite all the “paranoia” fear mongering, mild “paranoia”, on the rare occasions when it occurs, is most commonly associated with inexperienced marijuana consumers and almost always centers around a slightly increased fear of arrest. It is relatively widely believed that once marijuana is re-legalized the “paranoia” associated with consuming marijuana will be almost completely nonexistent.

Then in the absence of posting even one valid argument against marijuana or any attempt at a rational debate over anything I posted, you “giggle” at my passion, without even having a clue about why I’m so passionate. If you understood that, you probably wouldn’t think I, “protest wayyyy too much”!

Since you seem quite intelligent, to at least some degree on other issues, once you realize that everyone is harmed severely by marijuana prohibition, no matter whether they consume marijuana or not, you might, in a more informed state of mind, even join me and tens of millions of others in the USA, which passionately seek to right this awful wrong that costs about $50 Billion US tax dollars every year to enforce, outlaws what’s almost certainly the single most beneficial plant know and which is used as an excuse to trash Constitutional rights and freedom more often than any other law in the history of the USA.

A nonviolent person is arrested in the USA on marijuana charges every 38 seconds, that represents an astronomical amount of unnecessary, unjust, waste and harm!

Criminals gangsters terrorists and illegal aliens thrive in the roughly $113 Billion tax free annual black market marijuana TRADE, created by marijuana PROHIBITION. Is that what you support?

Thousands have died in Mexico’s violent gangland black market marijuana TRADE wars, over the last couple of years and many Americans on both sides of the law have needlessly died here because of marijuana PROHIBITION. A legal marijuana market would end ALL the violence CAUSED by illegal marijuana dealers! When was the last time you heard of alcohol dealers getting into a shootout? I BET IT WAS WHEN ALCOHOL WAS ILLEGAL! Prohibition of marijuana does nothing good at all but it creates astronomical unnecessary harms and waste!

As you can see, you did attack me unjustly and you didn’t factually disprove or even debate. Don’t feel bad though, it happens all the time and cheap shots will never cause my passion on this issue to abate.

Contrary to your statement, even in the “Land of the FREE”, adults are NOT free to ingest anything they like, not even in the privacy of their own home and even when it’s a nontoxic, non-addictive, non-violence causing substance which is well documented as being SAFER than many foods we consume and give to our kids all the time. You sound like you support such freedom, maybe now that you know it being violated is harming even you, then you and others that read what I’ve said here will help end this harmful, wasteful, unconstitutional, tyranny.

It’s not “facts” that are tricky, facts are facts! What’s tricky are speculations and misinformation, wrongfully thought to be facts, like the sun revolving around the earth and the current belief that one of the most beneficial, SAFEST plants on earth, is somehow so dangerous, that it should be outlawed.

The prohibition of marijuana exists for no other reasons than to promote the profits of crooked corporations that sell inferior, toxic, often deadly and environmentally harmful, overpriced products, that will be replaced with products from the hemp/cannabis/marijuana plant, once marijuana is re-legalized.

Marijuana PROHIBITION exists to benefit corrupt politicians and other corrupt public servants, as an excuse to trash Constitutional rights and liberty and as a tool to promote tyranny! Not helping to end these things is the same as supporting them. Apathy and/or wrongfully thinking this is not hurting everyone is very much hurting everyone when it comes to marijuana prohibition!

I hope you now very plainly see that this issue is indeed “skin off your nose” and all other noses! Everyone living under marijuana PROHIBITION is paying the tab for this injustice, waste and astronomical harms! Everyone is losing Constitutional rights and liberty because of marijuana PROHIBITION, plus other harms like, being forced to use inferior, toxic, often deadly, environmentally harmful products that marijuana prohibition forces everyone that doesn’t want to risk jail and suffer innumerable other harms to endure. There’s far more “skin” off noses of those that don’t consume marijuana, than off the noses of those that do!

By the way, most people that are trying to end this injustice and all the harms associated with it, by educating the voters, are far from some selfish mindless stereotypical drug addict interested in nothing more than their next high, as is vehemently parroted by those who are either profiting from marijuana prohibition, ignorant of the truth, or brainwashed by anti-marijuana prohibition to the point that they are seriously addicted to it.

There are almost as many valid reasons to end to marijuana prohibition as there are people supporting it. Many have medical reasons, many have economic reasons, many have political reasons, some even have religious reasons. There’s one thing for sure, anyone that wants marijuana can find it almost anywhere, so there’s a lot more going on here than just the often claimed “desire to get high legally”. People that just want to get high are doing exactly that and they don’t care about the harms marijuana prohibition is causing others, they have what they want and they can get more any time they like. There’s a lot more at stake here than a buzz!

Got any on topic questions or concerns that don’t include personal attacks?

  • Oh the irony. The marijuana user, just brutally owned the alcohol user.
Maybe you shouldn't have used so many big words. Hahaha.

  • How do you prove a DUI for someone smoking pot? Drug test is meaningless, the THC can stay in your system for up to a month after you last smoked. I guess normally you could have the cop who pulled you over testify to your being stoned, but I'm pretty sure this particular cop has never encountered an actual stoned person in his life. His tongue got numb, really? It's like the cop's idea of pot comes from Reefer Madness.

Watch yourself, Chris Robbins...make an even slightly snarky remark about a Simms kid and you'll be next!

DALLAS -- Desmond Howard says he felt threatened by Phil Simms during a confrontation about comments Howard, an ESPN analyst, made about Simms' son, Tennessee quarterback Matt Simms.

According to Howard, Simms, an NFL analyst for CBS, was upset about comments Howard made on ESPN's College GameDay football show last season, in which Howard referred to Simms' son Matt as one of the three worst quarterbacks in the SEC.

Howard wrote on his Twitter account, "Phil Simms just threatened 2 hit me b/c I said his son was 1 of the worse QBs in the SEC. I told him "LET'S GO!"

Howard then tweeted that police intervened so that he could continue his scheduled appearance at the NFL Experience, a Super Bowl event for fans at the Dallas Convention Center.

Howard, in a statement issued by ESPN, said: "I was at a public signing for a sponsor when Phil approached me to express anger over on-air analysis I made months ago about his son, Tennessee QB Matt Simms. During the conversation, Phil made a reference to hitting me and security and sponsor representatives soon stepped in. It was an unfortunate incident and I'm moving on."

Simms, in a statement issued by CBS Sports, said: "Desmond and I were having a private conversation that became heated. But at no time was there ever a chance of any physical confrontation, or that I felt the police officer assigned to me by the event planners for my appearance needed to separate the two of us."
