Osama Bin Laden Corpse Photo Release May Be Imminent

030511Ladendead.jpg For some, the killing, capture, identification, and sea burial of Osama Bin Laden was a tad too speedy. After all, we're living in an era where a "certificate of live birth" just won't cut it. So it would seem to follow that the Obama administration would be keen on releasing a photo of a deceased Osama Bin Laden to quell any notion that he is in fact, waiting for a parasailing lesson at a Sandals resort right now. Well, we may not have to wait much longer.

ABC News has picked up on chatter at the White House over a possible release of such a photo today, and The Druge Report has all but confirmed it, noting that it "will likely become the most view picture in modern history." Sorry, Lolcats.

I believe he's dead and pictures were taken. I'd like one 8X10 and 4 wallet size.

  • SpideySense

Orly Tatz will demand to know if Bin Laden died in Pakistan and be pushing for his long form death certificate.

Seeing an image of his body will never erase the images of 9/11.

The solution to assuage the conspiracy theorists without releasing the photo to the general public is to show it to their preferred politicians and perhaps even talking heads and other media (Glenn Beck, High Times, etc). They in turn can confirm to their constituents and/or audience. It would be invite only. No electronic devices so it can't be leaked.

It's a no win. Releasing it will be considered inflammatory by some. Not releasing it will keep conspiracy theorists and their mouthpieces clammoring for it until it becomes a total distraction.

this prez is much too focused on assuaging detractors that are oblivious morons and hate mongers. keep that gruesome photo in the classified archives Obama.

  • I don't like this. I thought it was in really bad taste when we released the photos of Saddam's sons when they were killed in an airstrike. We did what we had to do, let's leave it at that.

It's sad that so much of our national identity is defined by killing people.

“I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy. Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.”

    – Jessica Dovey + Martin Luther King, Jr.
    guess what? MLK is dead.

  • evbo

    Wrong. MLK didn't say that.

    From salon.com:

Yesterday, around 3 p.m., a trend started emerging on Twitter. People began reciting a quote from Martin Luther King Jr. that seemed strangely apt for this occasion:

"I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy."

The first person to cite it was the famous magician/Libertarian Penn Jillette, but the words quicky went viral, and the source got lost in the shuffle. The only problem? As Megan McArdle pointed out in The Atlantic, Martin Luther King never said that. Actually, the quote from MLK about enemies is:

"In the End, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends."

There's more to the article if you want to read it for yourself. 'Nuff said.

as opposed to bin Laden, who's identity was tied into his love of chess and cute puppies.

  • cr17

Same could be said for a lot of countries around the world.

  • shocktheday

You think the Navy Seals should have swooped in, give Osama a spanking and then leave ?

  • xxdesmus

If people don't believe he's dead ...well who gives a damn about them? Let them live in their imaginary world then. It's not our problem. We are not going to win over any hearts and minds by releasing the photo of him dead. It's just going to put our soldiers around the world in even more harm.

  • robingee

Some people in tin-foil hats still won't believe it. "PhotoShopped!" they will cry, as if they even know what that means.

  • Spirit of 76

Nah. Why even need to go to all that trouble? It's just some guy they found who bore an unfortunate (for him) resemblance to bin Laden. So the SEALs smuggled him in, shot him in the head and "Mission accomplished." After all, ten years after he went into hiding, who could say exactly what he looked like now? It's good to be the king, eh, Count De Monet? And the DNA tests? All forged. They just used a sample from one of his relatives and said it was his and voila! It matches!

They say the same thing about ACTUAL PHOTOS taken on the surface of the moon.

Stupidest idea ever. We're not the audience. We're fighting a war here. The audience should be the baddies. Message should be you behave badly, we take you out, end of story.
