You've got to hand it to the casting directors at HBO—they sure do know how to target an audience. Behold this amazing gem of a Craigslist ad—"looking for featured Hipsters!" (capitalization theirs)—that the network posted for its Brian Greenberg/ Kid Cudi vehicle about pretty young things just trying to make it in the big city, How To Make It America.

"So have you ever been called a hipster? Deny being one but own various wardrobe and sport a hairstyle that is considered non-mainstream.? Got any cool tattoos? Have a awesome beard or ironic mustache.? Have some cool vintage dresses? Did you make it to the LCD Soundsystem farewell show or desperately wanted to? If any of these things pertain to you, you're probably just right for the show," reads the ad, which Flavorwire brought to our attention. So, are you?

They'll be filming in (duh) Bushwick and the Lower East Side all this week, so dress snazzy and you, too, might get famous! The whole hipster thing not your style? Don't worry, they're looking for "model types," too.

With such a vague description, anyone with any kind of fashion sense could be called a hipster. Hell, Gene Shalit has an ironic mustache, my wife has vintage dresses (maybe because she bought them new?), I wanted to see the LCD Soundsystem show but couldn't, and I'm sure we would all deny being one, so DAMMIT we must be hipsters! I guess I'm off to buy skinny jeans and fake Ray Bans now.

Geez- When hiring. . . It's the first thing I look for on a resumé: number of Tats; Piercings; a 'cool' Mustache; an even 'cooler' Haircut; and an applicant wearing some out-of-date-clothing!!

And why do I look for these thing in a job applicant?! Because I know that an individual who feels it necessary to live life and work behind so much personal 'shtick'- must not have been distracted while getting an education, maintaining focus and following an experiential career track- and perforce; must be exceedingly good at whatever such an applicant does to earn a living by being a productive member of our society at large. (420-friendly. . . is also definitely a big bonus here!!)

Are hipsters supposed to have love handles?

  • Trustafarian

Pretty silly. No real hipster would ever refer to themselves as such.

This show is not bad. It's hard to argue with anything with Luis Guzman in it.
