11-Year-Old Details Kidnapping Into Sex Slavery

After being lured from her Bronx home by a sexual predator seven months ago, an 11-year-old has returned home, and told the Daily News about how her kidnappers pimped her out to men in their Lower East Side apartment. The girl managed to call her grandmother, who told her to run from the Delancey Street apartment while her captors slept. She was eventually found by cops, and is undergoing treatment at a Westchester clinic. She said of her captors, "I want them to go through pain 24 hours a day. I want someone to make them do stuff the way they made me do stuff...I want them to go through what I went through. I think about nothing but anger."

The victim had been living with a foster family after both her mother and her grandmother were busted on drug charges. She met Dawud McKelvin, 30, while sitting on her foster parents' porch when she was ten, and continued seeing him after she returned to her grandmother's care. A few months later, she didn't some home from school. "He called me the day before and asked me if I wanted to come live with him," she said. Court papers say she was taken to an apartment on West 110th Street, where she was raped by McKelvin's cousin, and then brought to the Lower East Side apartment. She said "One man gave me $700, another gave me $1,000 and another gave me $500. Maybe there were five or six men, in all."

Unfortunately, this fate is all too common for young girls who are kidnapped. Private Investigator Joe Mazzilli says about 40 percent of the missing kid and runaway cases he works on involve pornography or prostitution. "There are very few cases that involve someone as young as 10 or 11 years old," he said. "But on the flip side, once they hit 13, there are thousands of cases like that. It's so sad." For example, Billionaire investor Jeffrey Epstein served 13 months in jail for soliciting minors for prostitution, some allegedly as young as 12.

McKelvin has been indicted on charges of rape and predatory sexual assault against a child, and his cousin, Lee McKelvin, was indicted on charges of rape, criminal sexual assault and predatory sexual assault.

this story is horrific, the comments are worse, no one seems to be acknowledging that if the mother and grandmother could make a decent living doing something other than drugs or drug dealing, that this situation may not have happened. This is a perfect example of when that 77 cents on the dollar a woman makes, and in this case perhaps more like 50 cents, causes these circumstances. Nearly impossible to get out of too. Job training, well paying jobs, etc...could have prevented this.

This is the sort of case in which the true nature of the crime gets obscured by legal language. The report keeps saying she was "kidnapped" but when most people read "kidnap" they imagine a forcible grabbing and imprisonment.

It reads like some monster grabbed a young girl off the streets and forced her into prostitution. So it becomes a story of some young girl and a few predators.

But from reading the article it seems more like a case of an ignored and near abandoned child who willingly goes off w/ her 30yo(?!?) boyfriend, who then has a couple of "friends" come over and they have sex with the girl for money.

This poor girl, her life is so indescribably shitty and chaotic that at 10 she has a boyfriend 20 years older than her and no one notices or puts a stop to it. So the real story should be of how we have a society in which so there are so few fail safes that this sort of thing happens in the frist place.

Junkie or drug dealing mom - locked up. Grandma given custody, then granny gets locked up for dealing. Was there no rehab or job/parenting training available for these women before their kid was taken away? Then the girl's in foster care, but obviously no one even noticed that a 10yo had a 30yo male friend? So the 500 bucks the foster family got for her "care" every month was just room and board but not any sort of actual supervision.

Just a series of catastrophic fails all around.

How come they don't mention the race/ethnicity of this woman and her captors? I think we can all guess which race group they come from since it's not mentioned. Some communities are full of savages where this type of behavior among all parties is the norm. After all, kids this girls age are already having babies of their own so I hate to say it, it's not surprising this would happen there.

What do we say as a society when things like this happen? How do we contend with individuals with that type of avarice? How do we stop malignant behavior like this from perpetrating again?
