Mother Of Teen Accused In Deliveryman Beating: "Honest, He's A Good Boy"

A 16-year-old Bronx resident accused of beating a Chinese food deliveryman was described as an honors student by his mother. Charles Codrington was arraigned today, and his mother Carmen Codrington said, "Honest, he's a good boy, he just fell in with a bad crowd." However, prosecutors pointed out that the teen is seen on surveillance video punching the victim at least twice and the call to the Chinese restaurant was made from his cell phone.

Codrington and a 15-year-old turned themselves into the police after surveillance video of the Morningside Heights attack was released. The video showed three suspect beating the deliveryman, with a fourth person acting as a lookout. The group flees, but not before one of the suspects throws the Chinese food at the deliveryman. Manhattan Criminal Court Judge Anthony Ferrara, who noted the footage "shows a vicious attack," asked Codrington's mother if he obeyed her and she replied that most of the time, he does, "Just taking out the garbage -- he just takes his time. Or I tell him to be in at 9 o'clock and he's in at 9:15!" Judge Ferrara set his bail at $1,000, while he set the 15-year-old bail at $5,000.

The deliveryman suffered various facial injuries in the attack. And Carmen Codrington told reporters, "He was following the wrong child. The child he was following has done this before... This is the first time that my son has been in trouble."

This is a hate crime. Just like those unscrupulous lenders that target specifically minority communities because of their economic conditions. These criminals are only assaulting those who belong from a certain race that they perceive to be defenseless. Get rid of all thuggery. But when that happens you know the thugs and their apologists will cry for mercy. They ain't getting it. So they gotsta do their hustle while the going is good, eventually you know what will happen.

I notice that most of the juvenile delinquents caught and charged by the police are termed by their Mothers and other relatives as being: 'Good Boys- and Honor Students'.

In this- I believe that the errant juveniles ARE in fact- 'Good Boys'- but who are suffering from the stressful effects of maintaining a high Grade Point Average (GPA)!
To relieve their constant academic stresses- they are simply acting-out by committing these relatively minor acts of vandalism; physical and sexual assaults; robbery; attempted murder. . . and yes- every once-in-a-while. . . murder or multiple murders. BUT THIS DOESN'T MAKE THEM BAD!! They are still basically 'Good Boys' who need a little understanding- especially if they have a GPA over 3.5! The Police should cut these kids a little slack! In this particular case: did the Chinese Food Deliverly Guy have a GPA over 3.0?! I'll bet not!

After committing these 'crimes'- these temporarily errant youths should be treated academically. . . and be given various degrees of 'Detention'- sitting in their school's auditorium and given their book to continue their studies so that they can maintain their above average GPA score! A couple of days detention is all that is needed to redirect these errant youthful offenders. . . except in case of murder- in which case, the punishment should be at least a week of detention, or maybe two. . . and NO cell iPhone or MP3 players either! C'mon- give these kids some understanding. . .and a break!

In my day, as I recall, it took a little longer to graduate from "good boy" to mugger or common street thug. It usually started out with a smoke behind the pizzeria and graduated to smuggling a half pint of Southern Comfort into the school dance. A little minor shoplifting, maybe a misdirected rock through someone's window. And the "good kids" generally knew which kids not to follow. Kids develop so quickly these days.

If you live in my neighborhood (Harlem - just north of where this happened) you'd know that women here equate kids with WIC, section 8 housing, and not having to ever work again.

Sounds pretty good to me.
