As you may have heard, beloved laid-back Fort Greene bar Moe's is closing. Over the weekend, we heard the bar had a farewell party and assumed that it already passed beyond the curtain of eternity. But a tipster named Ron Worthy, the self-proclaimed "mayor" of Fort Greene and maintainer of Moe's Facebook page, tells us Moe's last night is actually tonight! And he says it's going to be crazy. Moe's phone number has been disconnected, so we're unable to confirm details at this time, but here's an excerpt from one regular's heartfelt Moeulogy:
I remember having some of my first conversations about my intention to marry my wife. By then, Moe’s had become a family to me. Everyone had their input and gave me great advice. From where to buy the ring to what kind of tuxedo to get. I remember being awakened by the drumming and joy and getting dressed and walking down to Moe’s on the night Obama was elected. It was a scene that will last with me for the rest of my life. Moe’s was the natural place for us to convene and it was a tearful celebration.
I remember playing spades with white folks for the first time .and actually losing a few times. :-)...I remember feeling like we were in the best bar in the best neighborhood in the best city in the best country in the best world in the Universe.
Read the whole thing here with a box of tissues, and head over to Moe's while you still have the chance, because after tonight happiness will no longer be just a Flaming Moe's away.

I liked Moe's. It was a comfortable place to go, especially after BAM. But too many times I was there and a lot of people were smoking. I've really gotten used to smoke-free bars so I started to look for other options.

As the story goes, the landlord saw a business that everyone loved and wanted more money. And more. And more. And more. You'd think the jerk opened and ran the bar himself - which he might have to do, if not even a packed joint like Moe's will pay his price increases.

Yeah, that landlord is going to have trouble paying the legal fees for that crap he pulled at his home in NJ last fall.
