Wilbert A. Elvy Although we never enjoy getting a parking ticket, it can sometimes feel like a relief—after all, if we leave the ticket on the windshield, we don't have to pay the meter, and we can probably get away with free parking for the rest of the day. Well, one Dutchess County man must have been thinking along those lines yesterday when he was caught twice in the same night by the same troopers drunk driving. Because if you get caught drunk driving once, you have immunity for the rest of the day, right?
Wilbert A. Elvy of Mount Vernon was stopped by NY State police on State Route 55 in LaGrange at 1:32 a.m. yesterday after Elvy failed to lower his high beam lights. He was arrested for DWI and was taken to the Poughkeepsie police barracks; police say he had a blood alcohol content of .14 percent. He was released to a sober passenger who said she would take him home.
Then, two hours later, the same troopers stopped a car driving westbound on State Route 44 which was weaving and crossing the centerline. Surprise surprise, it was Elvy; he was again arrested and brought to the police station, where his BAC was .11 percent. Elvy posted $250 bail and was released to his girlfriend, and was thus unable to go for the elusive triple arrest crown. Police should just be glad he didn't ask them to wait while he finished smoking his crack.
