I was about 20 feet away when this happened. My back was turned and so didn't see the man jump, thank God. But I did see the train operator who was shaking like a leaf and very upset yet remained remarkably professional. Such a sad commute today.

I was actually there. He was standing right in front me. As the train approached, he immediately jumped in front of the train. Everybody jumped back in horror.

  • News like this is always sad.
To think that someone can live in such a huge city, surrounded by SO MANY f@cking people on a daily basis and yet sometimes STILL not be able to find another caring human being that will offer a caring ear to their troubles & woes.

Sadly, mental illness is a funny thing -- sometimes you can be surrounded by caring ears and people who are more than glad to help you, and it won't make a bit of difference. Sometimes you can even be surrounded by people who love you and are desperate to find a way to help you get better...but can't.

It may be that this person just didn't have anyone who cared. But it may also be that he did...but that it just wasn't enough to overcome the illness.
