In a sad turn of events earlier this week, a young mother was mistakenly shot and killed in the Bronx by one of her Facebook friends. Bolivia Beck, 21, was walking with her 21-year-old boyfriend, ex-con Joey Colon, when mutual friend Gary Davis encountered them Monday night at the Millbrook Houses in the South Bronx. He allegedly fired two shots in an apparent attempt to kill Colon, but instead hit Beck in the head.

Police sources told the News that Davis ran off after the shooting, and is "quite remorseful, but we just can't find him." Police do not yet have a motive for the shooting, but they established that Beck and Davis were at least virtual friends on the social media site. Beck, who has a four-year-old daughter and worked at Toys "R" Us, died yesterday from her injuries.

Davis, also 21, has prior arrests for assault and robbery; Colon served two years for robbery and possession of a weapon. Police are searching for Davis, but sources added, "We wish he'd come in and tell detectives about it himself."

This story is so painful on so many levels...

So if he had shot the person he wanted to kill, it wouldn't have also been a mistake?

    Whoopsie-daisy!

  • Just because you're "friends" on facebook, it doesn't necessarily translate to real life. Wasn't there a facebook murder a few weeks ago where someone stabbed someone else over a loan gone bad? How exactly does FB figure into it? They were acquaintances at worst.

  • *at best.

  • No. Friends at best, acquaintances at worst. They obviously knew each other, but it could be a friend of a friend, or someone you meet at a party, etc. A few of my facebook friends are friends of my wife's friend, people who I'd never ring up to hang out with or something.

Man, I feel badly for people stuck in the PJs.

  • MermaidFornicator

no one is "stuck" in the pjs. this girl chose to be friends with, and date, criminals. after she chose to have unprotected sex & became a mom at 17.

  • BoogieDown

Yeah, I wasn't really referring to her. Having a kid at 17 is a surefire way to never get out. I was thinking more of the older people who are there because they are poor and have to live amongst all the drug dealing, filth, and violence. While I feel badly about what happened to her, she had so many more options in life at her young age. The low-income widow, not so much.
