Gotham City is home to a particularly colorful class of criminals, from The Riddler to Mad Hatter to Ten Eyed Man...and the real life Gotham ain't too different! We have robbers with "Hitler-like" mustaches, the "Scream" mask guy, and Darth Vader. And now there's a new criminal mastermind with a catchy nickname to add to that venerated list: the "Hefty Burglar."

Police say that the robber has hit at least 17 stores and restaurants, stretching from midtown to the upper East Side, in the past few weeks. As his "official" nickname might suggest, he is a heavyset man with dark hair and a ponytail—ABC really wants the "The Ponytail Bandit" to catch on as a nickname. Police say that the robbery spree started on March 3, when the supervillain cut through a gate and broke into the Golden City Chinese Restaurant on E. 33rd Street. They say his pattern of robberies usually begins on a Thursday and ends on a Monday...and who can trust someone who is not working for the weekend like the rest of us?

Nobody has been harmed in any of the robberies, unless you have a particular affinity for fences and security gates—he does seem to leave a lot of broken locks in his wake. We can't imagine he's too fond of his nickname, but he should just be glad the News didn't have their way, or else we might be calling him, "The Robbing Rotund Pudgy Pilferer."
