Seinfeld To Trump: No Jokes For You!

It seems that Donald Trump, the potential Ross Perot of 2012, has really been making friends during his fake presidential campaign. According to the Post, Jerry Seinfeld canceled an upcoming appearance at a benefit for his son's Eric Trump Foundation, because of Trump's hotheaded birther rhetoric. And Trump was none too pleased: "You should be ashamed of yourself!" he wrote Seinfeld in an angry letter. As Frank Costanza might say, "THEY DON'T WANT ME, I DON'T WANT THEM."

According to his reps, Seinfeld pulled out of the Sept. 13 event benefiting the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital because he disagrees with Trump's blather about Obamas birth certificate. Taking the high road, Trump wrote in response that he hated The Marriage Ref: "We don't care that you broke your commitment, even though the children of St. Jude are very disappointed, and despite the fact that your manager clearly stated you are 'truly a man of his word.' What I do feel badly about is that I agreed to do, and did, your failed show, 'The Marriage Ref,' even though I thought it was absolutely terrible...Despite its poor ratings, I didn't cancel on you like you canceled on my son and St. Jude. I only wish I did."

Seinfeld's reps told the Post that he felt "uncomfortable" with The Donald's stance, and that he would still make a contribution both to the Eric Trump Foundation and to St. Jude. But it seems that someone was still mad, since Seinfeld's rider requests were dropped at the bottom of the story: they say it included demands for Hershey's Almond Kisses, original Fig Newtons and cold vegetable trays (no baby carrots), as well as "NO CUSHIONED STOOLS!" Trump won't have to worry about replacing Seinfeld at the event though—he's already gotten noted comedian Bret Michaels to fill in.

Seinfield is a philanthropist, he gives alot of money to kids and things like that. Something trump knows nothing about.

Philanthropists don't generally associate with such caustic and polarizing people. It tends to devalue their contributions if they have political baggage.

Trump sees cancellation as an excuse to yell and scream and act all victimized. Shocker. he loves it.

Ashamed? Sein can cancel any engagement he wants. Marriage Ref? Trumper please.

Jerry should have gone and ripped Trump on the birther thing roast-style.

Jerry should have gone and ripped Trump on the birther thing roast-style.

He should have ripped Trump on his hair roast-style. I'm sure a good comedian could get an entire hour out of that and Trump's other foibles and escapades over the years. The guests at the benefit would still get a show. The rest of us get some chuckles when Gothamist writes it up. Jerry gets the satisfaction of knowing he did a good routine and kept his promise. The only one who wouldn't be happy would be the Donald, and I'd be okay with that. The show must go on!

Seinfeld is the classless jerk here for going back on his word to help children in need just to make a partisan political point.

  • Peanut_Butter

Jerry Seinfeld isn't always that nice. He can come off as a bit entitled, arrogant. Saw him once bicker with Larry King over some stupid issue, forgot what it was, but the video's up on YT.

  • robingee

He's still going to contribute money. And money talks.

  • angry_pickle

What is this? Crazy and republican by association? It was his son's event not Donald Trump's. If asked to explain his presence at Trump's son's event, Seinfeld could have easily said he was here for the children and the hospital.

The turd doesn't land far from the asshole it sprang from, as they say.

Perhaps you should try the flush handle, it's that metal piece on the tank.

What does the Children of St. Jude know about Seinfeld? A show about nothing.

  • vertigone

Every day it's something with this block-headed orange fool. He's as tiresome and irrelevant as the Kardashians and Jersey Shore people. And just as classy.

  • Peanut_Butter

You know he's classy when you see him putting his name everywhere.
You know he's not old money.
He wears his money as well as a cheap suit.
