A man was arrested for allegedly stabbing his girlfriend to death and leaving her in his Bensonhurst apartment's bathtub yesterday. Brian Sohtz, a NYC Transit dispatcher, was apprehended after allegedly calling his ex-wife and telling her, "Hey, I just killed my girlfriend. I just want to come out and see my kids one last time." The ex-wife then called the Suffolk County police, which contacted the NYPD.
When Brooklyn police officers went to Sohtz's apartment, they found Daniella Mannino, 34, in a bathtub with several stab wounds. Mannino's father, Joseph, is the longtime chief of office services for Brooklyn DA Charles Hynes, and reportedly "learned about the murder at work." Hynes' office said that they would seek a special prosecutor and added, "The D.A. wants to express his feelings for the family. Our prayers are with the Mannino family tonight. He’s one of us."
Sohtz, 36, and Mannino had apparently been dating for a few months.
