Fatally Stabbed Woman Found In Brooklyn Bathtub, Police Arrest Boyfriend

2011_04_bklvi.jpg A man was arrested for allegedly stabbing his girlfriend to death and leaving her in his Bensonhurst apartment's bathtub yesterday. Brian Sohtz, a NYC Transit dispatcher, was apprehended after allegedly calling his ex-wife and telling her, "Hey, I just killed my girlfriend. I just want to come out and see my kids one last time." The ex-wife then called the Suffolk County police, which contacted the NYPD.

When Brooklyn police officers went to Sohtz's apartment, they found Daniella Mannino, 34, in a bathtub with several stab wounds. Mannino's father, Joseph, is the longtime chief of office services for Brooklyn DA Charles Hynes, and reportedly "learned about the murder at work." Hynes' office said that they would seek a special prosecutor and added, "The D.A. wants to express his feelings for the family. Our prayers are with the Mannino family tonight. He’s one of us."

Sohtz, 36, and Mannino had apparently been dating for a few months.

  • RIP Daniella.

  • if you or someone you know might be in a controlling relationship, please have them call safe horizons. keep the numbers in your phone to share with people who might need them. and remember, if someone tells you about something that happens/happened to them, if raped get the victim to an emergency room immediately and discreetly notify the triage desk of the situation. remember that showering after can remove important evidence, so even if you feel disgusting the perpetrator will more likely face consequences if you can make it to the ER for a rape kit "dirty". in the case of assault, calling 911 or seeing the domestic violence officer at your local precinct is best. women should not be injured or killed by people they trust, and if a friend of yours is in a relationship that "doesn't seem right", it probably isn't. trust your instincts.

  • MartinBurgisser98204

Guess he didn't respond to well to the training

  • TheRealCannibal

Neither did the rottweiler that you trained to lick your scabby grundle. The smell made him blind.

Just because I never see it on here since people in NY seem to think Brooklyn (and Manhattan) is the shit and all other boroughs plus LI and NJ are crap:

    Stay classy, Brooklyn!

Don't have men pay for anything!!!!

    And other such nonsense!  Hoorah!

  • TheRealCannibal

Especially when it comes to getting a hot stream of diarrhea shat straight into your open mouth. Your mom still insists on doing that for free on thursdays.

  • Rocknrope

Her FB page is open. Does anyone else find it surreal, sad and a tad creepy when stories of victims like this have their Pages and Wall's open? She talks about hoping for Spring weather, little does she realize that she'll be killed by a lunatic a few months later.

  • splicernyc

I blame a pervasive attitude in this society among certain people that "nobody messes with me" that gives permission for people who might have thought twice about violence into acting on it.

  • JarekAF

    Jeez . . . what's with all the stabbings?

If these guys could just blaze a blunt and relax, perhaps they wouldn't be so stabby. It's not worth it. She's dead. You're in jail for the rest of your life. "Boy, I showed her" Uh, no, you didn't.

I can understand "rage" but, I can't understand plunging a knife into someone, multiple times, no matter what they may have done. Punch a wall or something. So sad.

  • TheRealCannibal

I feel so bad for the boyfriend.

  • Fofofofofo

Yeah, what is with all the stabbings? Is it just getting reported more lately, successful gun control or is it just some creepy coincidence?

Ladies, hide your slicers, hide your paring knives, hide your serrateds!

also, remember break up over a phone call/text message, or in public!

  • Fofofofofo

Once I had a dude break up with me over text message. That guy deserves to be stabbed in the pener for being a wuss.

  • virgilstarkwell

if you even half-think that stabbing someone in the "pener" (i'm assuming that's feminist bitch lingo for penis) for being a "wuss" is a justifiable action, then i'm amazed you were even in a relationship long enough to get broken up with.

  • Fofofofofo

    1.) You assume I'm a "bitch" aka a women.
2.) You are probably gross because any hot or awesome or secure dude I've met has not had problems with women.
3.) "Feminist bitch"??? What era are you living in? I'm surprised you don't use "women's lib".
4.) You don't get jokes. I mean, jokes about women in the kitchen are funny, but if it's reversed then you get all bent out of shape? Please explain.

  • MermaidFornicator

wow, breakups make everyone stabby these days.
