More facts have emerged from yesterday's subway face slashing. Despite initial reports that the attack on the 3 train took place with a pencil, it now appears the weapon was a pen. And that cigarette that the attacker was supposedly lighting up on the subway? It was actually more like a blunt. Perhaps he thought yesterday was 4/20?

Police arrested 35-year-old Cordero Coroberto, who has no permanent address, after the incident and charged him with second-degree assault, criminal possession of a weapon and possession of marijuana. He reportedly has a long list of priors for things like sleeping on the subway, turnstile jumping and criminal mischief.

Meanwhile the victim, Evelyn Seeger of Nutly, New Jersey, was given a tetanus shot and treated for a slash from her temple to her nose yesterday before being sent home. The argument between Seeger and Coroberto reportedly started after she chided him for trying to light a blunt on the crowded train.

"If you see a suspicious package or activity on the platform or train, do not keep it to yourself. Tell a Police Officer or an MTA employee. Remain alert and have a safe day."

I'd run the hell away, and then, when I'm a safe distance away, I'll call it in.

Ah, the pen is mightier than the pencil.

  • Fofofofofo

Who hasn't learned that people don't like it when you tell them how to behave?

  • Peanut_Butter

I got away with one when I was younger. I told an old guy in a bank ATM area not to smoke (while we were all inside the ATM area waiting for the bus).

  • Fofofofofo

It's a good thing you could outrun him if he got pissed.

"who has no permanent address" is that the new PC way of saying homeless??

words hurt. at this rate, every word will be banned in a few centuries.

like the lady that told the animals to stop eating spaghetti on the train, she should have minded her own business then tell a cop.

Except eating in the subway isn't a crime, its just obnoxious

Well, he was following a rich heritage of New Yorker's contempt for prohibitive laws.

    Still an asshole, though.

  • Gwinny

Do you seriously have a problem with a law preventing people from smoking on the subway??

  • FU Boy

No. I think it's a good law. But that's not to say that when the city enacts prohibition laws, people ignore them.

How long has "No smoking in bars or restaurants" been in place? Doesn't matter, I still see people smoking over drinks.

And isn't smoking pot in public illegal? You still catch a whiff while walking down the street.

Cocaine or crack? Nope, not a problem in this city - never has been.

And don't get me started on early 20th century prohibition. This is the city where Capone got his start, after all.

Like I said, there's long history of ignoring laws in this city if it interferes with people's self-destructive pleasures. It's the culture here. Then again, it's been a while since I've seen someone wear Scarface - themed merchandise, so maybe things are looking up. Ah, who am I kidding.

  • Gwinny

OK, I understand what you mean now. I've actually only seen people flouting the smoking law in a bar once - and it was at a venue that was a bit out off the beaten path (nearly under the Williamsburg Bridge). Also, people smoke at concerts all the time because there is no real way of enforcing that (although personally in those cases, I'd rather it be pot than tobacco). But I'm getting off topic here, I guess.

    Nutley.

another violent douchebag giving blunt smokers a bad name...

Google is your friend; he was also arrested for taking upskirt pictures of women at the subway turnstiles. Methinks we might think about not letting him use the transportation system anymore (at least, when he's released in a few months).
