John Lennon may have left his mortal coil more than 30 years ago but his words and music live on. And next year a whole lot more of them will be living in public, as Yoko Ono has consented to the publication of a collection of the singer's correspondence that will include everything from doodles to postcards to actual letters.
The anthology will be edited by Hunter Davies, the official Beatles biographer, and will include letters from Ono's archive and from private collections. But that's not all!
"Davies is aware that Lennon had many unknown pen pals over the years, fans or early friends whose correspondence with the singer is packed away in boxes. Anyone who has Lennon letters to share may contact the editor at johnlennonletters@hotmail.co.uk."
So, uh, if you've got a letter, you know the hotmail account to send them to (though feel free to send them to tips@gothamist.com as well).
The letters will be printed in chronological order and will, when possible, include Lennon's handwriting and margin notes. Davies says he already has about 200 letters and postcards collected. Will we find out that Lennon hated his neighbors in The Dakota? Or that Yoko really did break up the Beatles? We'll find out soon enough.
