LI Serial Killer Could Be A Cop, New Body Could Be A Kid

The search for more victims of the purported Long Island Serial Killer moves into Nassau County and Jones Beach today. While investigators search for more unmarked graves, the media continues to dig into twists in the case (like: could the killer be a law enforcement official?). Over the weekend the Post, always happy to muckrake, went so far as to say that police have a suspect (which officials deny) and today Murdoch's paper keeps it up by reporting that one of the second-batch of bodies found doesn't appear to be that of a small-statured prostitute, like the first four bodies found, but instead could belong to a baby or child.

"One doesn't match the others. It's a young person, possibly as young as an infant, or a child," a source who is familiar with the investigation told the paper. "If that's the case, then that wouldn't fit the pattern" of a serial killer, they added.

Police have yet to conclusively connect the bodies found last December with those found in the past two, though they are reportedly working on the assumption that they are related (and may also be related to the bodies found in Atlantic City in 2006). So if one of the bodies is a child it may well be unrelated to the others. Or the killer could slowly be changing their MO.

Over the weekend the NY Times reviewed the case, in particular focusing on the phone calls to one of the victim's sisters which fascinated the tabloids back in December. The brief nature of the phone calls (all of them came from burner phones in busy midtown locations and clocking in at under-three minutes were essentially untraceable) and the careful manner in which the bodies were disposed has some suspecting a current or former law enforcement officer. “He is a guy who is aware of how we utilize technology,” one investigator told the paper of record. “Frankly, people are thinking maybe he could be a cop.”

In the meantime, police continue to look for more clues (when overtime issues don't interfere). As such Ocean Parkway is closed to westbound from the Robert Moses Causeway to Wantagh Parkway today from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

It bugs me that the appearance of the might-be-child is used to justify the false dichotomy of 'he's either changing his MO or this isn't his kill.' It could very well be that this was a mistake. If he's targeting young, small prostitutes--many of whom could easily pass for children and tweens--maybe a child or a tween whose parents dressed them "trendy" got mistakenly caught in his radar. Or, even more disturbing, perhaps this was a child prostitute or the child/infant of a prostitute. Nothing should be dismissed from evidence until the killer is caught and the facts become clear. The red herrings can be weeded out afterward.

I do not know why they took down Craigs listings where these girls were advertizing.IMHO they should have just not accepted any new ads from girls and then had only cops making fake ads to catch him. If he was hitting up criags at that time we knew where he was shopping.Now we have no clue where he is scouting the girls ,Fabulous.
I think there is more than one of them .The girl who banged on the door of some neighbors on the beach she said help me THEY are trying to kill me .Typically we do not use the word they unless there is more than one person or it is past tense.It was not past tense. I realize most serial killers work alone but not always ...
Then a neighbor possibly the same neighbor, not sure ? Said a black SUV passed with an Asain guy asking if they saw a girl out there.
The guy or guys is / are only picking exclusively very small girls 90-110 lbs and short under 5 ft 2.
It appears to me he or they are not big guys adding some weight to the asian line of thought .I think he not only does not have interest in a larger woman but the lighter ones are easier to move ..
It should be considered that the smaller one found is possibly the child of one of the women. They should check the DNA to see if the little one is related to any of the others.
I wonder how many are really already dead i have a hard time believing they have found all of the bodies yet .I hope to God they have .He will unless caught run out of 100lb 5ft prostitutes in this area many are taller or heavier than his type thus far.
I think he hides someone ,a helper in a closet or somewhere that the girls are not seeing when they enter a room with him and they come out after when she is struggling or has gotten comfortable in some way.Or prehaps just after the door closes.
So when he runs out of 90-110 lbers on LI then what is he going to move onto larger ones? Does not look that way right now.Also the term Asian guy cover a lot of territory 60 percent of the worlds population according to wikapedia .It would interest me to know if they meant a Chinese looking guy or an Indian looking guy ? It was at best vague as is much of the info released..
I also find it so amazing that not one girl has come forward to say I met this guy and he was really crazy.... It looks like no one who met with him and he wanted dead survived. It looks like he is 12 for 12 atm.

A child's body does not have to mean a change in the MO or less possibility of a serial killer. Perhaps the child was a witness or connected in some way to another victim and its death was an opportune kill or by way of covering tracks. It's naive to think a serial killer is fixated on killing only one type of person.

I'm going to say it's an independently wealthy middle aged man who's so bored with life he can only get a rush from killing people while trying to elude the law. He's probably obsessed with CSI shows and a huge fan of Dexter. Maybe he took some classes/workshops in forensics or just read a bunch of books on the subject.

You know how much one can say in 3 mins? Maybe the guy just wasn't a talker? It's much easier to talk than to listen. He's smart in being a listener and not a talker. This ain't the movies where the killer just talks and talks and talks. AKA the talking killer, he talks as he's about to shoot you then get's shot.
