It is 80° outside (no, really, we just looked at the weather widget next to the Gothamist logo to confirm). And if we didn't have, y'know, a job we'd absolutely be running outside to to find a sunny patch of grass to sit on. But you know where we wouldn't be sitting even if we wanted to? The lawn at Bryant Park.

Because of necessary construction—including a new drainage and irrigation system, a new electric system and new soil— the park's lawn isn't expected to open until the end of May (as opposed to opening late April or May, as it has in years past). Part of the delay was that after they took down the Bryant Park ice skating rink they had to wait for the ground to thaw (and then dry out). Workers are aiming to put bluegrass sod down on May 5

"We have four huge and complicated projects that we had to do before the public can use the lawn," Dan Biederman, president of the Bryant Park Corp, told the News. "We're getting there. We're almost done."

And while a healthy and hearty lawn in Bryant Park is a good thing, and worth the wait, we do wish they could somehow have magically had the grass ready for a day like today. Memorial Day it is, we guess!
