Snooki Booking At Rutgers May Lead To New Legislation!

optoutsnooki0411.png Earlier this month, America's youth—specifically those currently enrolled at Rutgers University—paid Snooki of Jersey Shore an absurd amount of money to come fist pump at the school. More than the university paid Toni Morrison, in fact. (Kids today! Etc.) Now Senator Joe Kyrillos is prepping a proposal in the state Senate that would essentially, hopefully, lead to better choices.

The Snooki booking was made by a student-run committee, using the mandatory student activity fees undergraduates must pay with their tuition. The new proposed legislation, according to NJ.com, says students should have a clearer choice of whether they want to pay for student-planned fee-based events. As Kyrillos put it, "Students ought not be forced to fund entertainment or events that they find objectionable. There were a great deal of Rutgers students who I am certain were uninterested or flat out outraged by Ms. Polizzi's appearance on campus." (She drew 1,000 students... our of around 25,000 undergrads.) He also called Snooki "a degenerate"!

If it passes, students will be able to check a box to opt out of contributing to the student activities fund. (Better get your college tour booked now, Pauly D!) But what about the rest of America—who will save us from the fist-pumping? The show was just picked up for a 4th season, and three cast members have gotten spin-off shows on top of it! You can opt out by not tuning in, we suppose.

  • This article is entirely bias. I particularly don't like the jersey shore people or watch their show but I'm definitely not complaining about how RUPA spends my money. First, only 1000 of 25000 undergraduate students went because that was how many tickets were being sold. The event sold out extremely fast. Also, the amount of money they spent to book her or anyone else for that matter isn't important. The organization budgets their money accordingly. I particularly love a lot of the events that RUPA sets up, they're students like me and they know what I want to participate in. Fist pumping with snooki wasn't my cup of tea but a lot of the students loved that she came to Rutgers. I'm happy to pay Rutgers an extra $1.28 (thats how much each student would have to pay to get another snooki) for events that allow me to get out of my apartment and do something other than study.

EDIT: THIS SITE SUCKS! I sign in with google and can't create a username.

"1000 of 25000 undergraduate students went because that was how many tickets were being sold. The event sold out extremely fast." That absolutely terrifies me, thinking that these 'students' pay tuition to go to an institution of higher learning to better their futures and could be our future professors and politicians and want to see SNOOKI!?!?!?! What a pitiful lot.

I see no problem with it. It's the equivalent of a student programming group booking a comedian. It's ridiculous to expect that every activity sponsored by a group affiliated with a university has to have some sort of educational or cultural "value."

It was an entertainment event. I am certain that I wouldn't have found much entertaining in whatever she would have to offer, but I can also say that about almost every stand-up comic I've heard in the past five years.

My school paid for Lewis Black to do stand up. Much better use of funds.

Snooki, a role model for no talent, ugliness, foul mouth and bigotry. Is that what the 32 G's are for, to enlighten the students at Rutgers on how to make a big buck being just like her? No wonder NJ is such a joke and an embarrassment. Allowing someone who portrays an Italian American as a piece of garbage. She is trash.

  • College is expensive. Offering students an option to check a box to lower their tuition? Goodbye student activity programs!
