This morning Fire Commissioner Salvatore J. Cassano showed off the new fire safety comic book alongside Captain America, Spider-Man, and some of the Bravest, who all took time from their busy life-saving schedules to be on hand. This isn't some second-rate comic, either, the FDNY teamed up with Marvel to make it happen! Fingers crossed they'll team up with Bono for a musical version.
At Midtown Comics on West 40th Street, Cassano said, “Comics and Marvel super heroes are increasingly popular with both children and adults and making the fire safety message entertaining is a great way to bring it to an even larger audience. We know that the work done by this Department and the FDNY Foundation to teach people of all ages how to make themselves and their homes fire safe has had a direct relation to the decrease of fire deaths in New York City.”
The 10-page comic shows FDNY firefighters battling blazes (and villains!) alongside super heroes, and it features a cliffhanger ending (the story's resolution is on the FDNY Foundation website). You can pick up your copy, while supplies last, at the FDNY Fire Zone in Rockefeller Center.
Spidey has also helped out Bloomberg in the past, but hasn't always been on The Man's good side. Check out this recent video showing the NYPD chasing the webbed one (through the streets of LA):
