Well, it's official. The Knicks are back in the playoffs. They finally beat the Cavaliers, too. For the first time since 2004, the Knicks will play in the postseason. Amar'e Stoudemire had 28 points as the team snapped an 11-game losing streak against Cleveland with a 123-107 win. Now the Minnesota Timberwolves have the longest playoff drought in the NBA all to themselves. The Knicks can still find their way to the sixth spot in the Eastern Conference if they pick up 1 1/2 games on the 76ers. They're 38-38 and can snap their other dubious streak -- nine straight losing seasons. Carmelo Anthony had 25 and Chauncey BIllups put in 23.
The Nets, on the other hand, will not be making the playoffs. They lost to the Heat, 108-94.
This season, the Mets didn't wait months to win their first series on the road. Behind a stellar outing from R.A. Dickey and an outing from Javier Vazquez that Yankees fans will find all-too-familiar, the Mets won, 9-2, over the Marlins. Dickey allowed an unearned run and five hits, struck out seven and walked three. Willie Harris continued his blistering start with a homer, and Ike Davis also went deep. The Mets led 7-1 after three and have an off-day Monday before visiting the Phillies on Tuesday.
The Yankees won their first series of the season but couldn't finish a sweep on Sunday. They http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/recap?gid=310403110lost to the Tigers, 10-7. Phil Hughes got lit up -- and had a sluggish fastball -- in a four-inning disaster. Jorge Posada went deep twice, Mark Teixeira hit his third homer of the year and Robinson Cano added a cheapo homer to right field. The Yankees host the Twins for four games starting on Monday.
A 3-2 shootout win over the Flyers helped the Rangers solidify their playoff standing. Erik Christensen and Wojtek Wolski
scored in the shootout to lift the Blueshirts, who had lost two straight. The Rangers are still in eighth place and two points ahead of Buffalo with three points remaining.
