Free Food Alert: Tom Colicchio's Game of Thrones Truck Coming To NYC

Colicchio shows off a squab dish he'll be serving at his Game of Thrones truck.
The transformation of food trucks into a major promotional tool is in full effect. Hot on the heels of the Air France truck and the Swamp People truck comes another free food truck, this one boasting food from Tom Colicchio inspired by HBO's upcoming series Game of Thrones. The truck will be in New York from March 28 through April 1 serving 300 portions a day of free dishes featuring meats like rabbit, duck, squab and venison.

Details on the exact menu and the trucks whereabouts aren't yet available, but you can expect to find more on the Game of Thrones Twitter all next week. And considering the small number of portions they'll be serving, you'll want to watch that feed closely.

"The real challenge," Colicchio says in a video (below) on the truck's fare, "was coming up with dishes that fit the five different regions in the series. The Wall, for instance, is very far north, its very cold, but it is bordered by sea so they do get seafood up there. So I decided to create a black fish stew."

"If I really could do it," he continued, "I'd have whole goats roasting on spits, but that's really hard to do for 300 people out of a food truck."

    button your button you slob!
  • I just grabbed the first volume of this series, so I can finally fill in that gap in my nerdlore.

You're going to love it. Be glad you just jumped on too. The rest of his minions have been waiting for the fifth book forever; release date is set for 7/12/11. Who knows how long the other 2 will take?
  • I'm totally afraid he's going to croak before he finishes the last two. I remember when book four came out and they were all "book five is half done, won't be long!"

    That was in 2005.

Like Robert Jordan?  I just started that series. I'm on book 3.
  • Yeah; I started Jordan when I was a wee wee weeeeee little Mordicai; I dug it like crazy, but it would take years for each book to come out & eventually I out grew it. I figure I'll read the last bunch eventually; I hear great things about Sanderson.

Anyhow, that is exactly why I was in no hurry to dive into this-- though now that the series is coming, I figure I better get at least the first one handled. Peter Dinklage! He's so great. Sean Bean too-- he really impressed me as Boromir.

I picked Dinklage for Tyrion waaaay before he was cast. I wish I had made a bet on it now. Not sure I would have picked Bean for Ned, but he's a damn good actor, so I'm sure he'll do the role justice.

The other epic series I recommend is the Sword of Truth books from Terry Goodkind.  And the original Dragonlance series. Good stuff!
  • As a big RPG nerd I have a huge fondness for Dragonlance Chronicles, but I can't say it is GOOD per se. Legends on the other hand might actually be quality writing.

I just finally read the Lankhmar books this year; great stuff. By the way-- I blog about all the books I read, if you are interested. http://mordicai.livejournal.co...

I'm always interested in reading more books and about them. Thanks for the link.

I think my RPG nerdiness is why I like the Dragonlance series too (I was not much into the Forgotten Realms, but a friend of mine got me into reading the Drizzt series recently). I think Hickman & Weiss are an awesome writing team. Legends is my fave fantasy trilogy of all time; Raistlin and Tasslehoff being two of my fave characters of all time.
  • Yeah; reading Chronicles especially cracks me up, since the "characters"-- based on the PCs-- totally avoid the plot. "Oh, dude with a gem in his chest babbling about ancient evils? Man, I hate that guy, lets get out of here." Isn't that so true? So good.

Raistlin is such a charming Elric pastiche-- & you know, doesn't everyone play in a game at some point where the players decide the want to fight Tiamat?
