We're used to hearing stories about cops getting drunk and doing something dumb and/or aggressive, but it seems more rare to hear about FDNY officers getting in trouble. But a cab driver alleges that he was beaten and robbed by four wasted FDNY officers on St. Patricks Day.

Taxi driver Bouchaib Fadrany told police that he was flagged down near the bar Social on Eighth Ave. near 48th St. about 10:30 p.m. on St. Patricks Day last week; the four men were wearing FDNY dress uniforms, and asked to be driven to Inwood. But the men were drunk and rowdy, so Fadrany stopped near Columbus Circle and told them to get out.

There are conflicting reports as to what happened next: the News says he stepped out of the vehicle, while NBC says one of the men opened his door—. Either way, he says that one of the officers punched him in the face and spit on him. And during the struggle, one of the men took his jacket, which contained $500 (all the cash he had made that day), before fleeing on foot.

Firefighters and other departments often march in the St. Patrick's parade in dress uniform. The FDNY confirmed that an investigation is underway, but no suspects have been identified, and no one is sure what company they might have been from. Fadrany aded that he believes one of the men may have been a lieutenant, because the others in the cab were referring to him as "Lieu." Either that, or his name was Lou.

Wow - one that didn't get shitcanned

  • The FDNY has a history of condoned racism that goes back decades. This doesn't surprise me.

Maybe they were saying in lieu of this, and in lieu of that, and being an immigrant, he didn't understand the phrase.

    Seems highly likely.
