Video: Bloomberg Campaigning... For Popularity

032311bloomberg.jpg What is a plutocrat to do with his fortune when his city is in debt, his third term seen as illegitimate, and his ratings are their lowest in eight years? Shut up and get to work Spend $1 million vanity ads trying to save face! Our billionaire mayor bought $1 million worth of TV ads with images of him talking to construction workers, hanging out with kids and arguing that his "solution is built on our core values." Mayor Bloomberg, he's just like us, only fabulously wealthy. Watch and learn:

The ads are partially in rebuttal to ads from local unions that have depicted the mayor as a liar who doesn't have his priorities straight. And UFT president Michael Mulgrew say the mayor's new ads aren't helping his image: "Instead of pulling out his checkbook in a vain attempt to change New Yorkers' minds, the mayor should just admit that teacher layoffs are unnecessary and join us in getting a fair budget from Albany, including an extension of the millionaires' tax."

However, don't confuse this ad for a precursor to a presidential run! Deputy Mayor Howard Wolfson said, "The mayor has said repeatedly he's not running for anything else, this is his last job in elected office, but he is fighting to get his views out there." Instead, he's just making sure New Yorkers are seeing both sides of the argument: "[The UFT] and the AFL-CIO have spent about $3 million on ads in the last month to attack the mayor.... And they are entitled to do that. One side has been presented on television and now it's time to present the other side." The Hizzoner cannot be silenced!

I see he's still harping on his Independence and no special interests BS. Nothing new to see here, he's still a bloombag.

Fidel Bloompolean isn't going anywhere unless he's in a box or indicted.

Gothamist had no problems accepting his money to plaster ads all over this site during his quest for a third term. Remember those? Yeah, he's for the middle class, it's about solar panels on rooftops, creating jobs, getting tough with the MTA. People bought his bullshit hook, line, and sinker then....

I've seen these ads. Now reading their purpose, I have further proof this country is done.

of course this is not for a presidential run, its for Bloomberg's 4th term as mayor, ad infinitum.

Hopefully the democrats will put a candidate with teeth in the election. If not, he'll win.

I still think Thompson could have won if he had a spine.

  • what a wanker.
