NJ Legislators Want Bath Salts Blacklisted

031611bathsalts.jpg Thanks to some crazy kids who would probably snort just about anything, two New Jersey legislators are introducing legislation to ban the sale and use of "bath salts," completely ruining grandma's relaxing foot soak. Deputy Speaker John McKeon and Assemblywoman Linda Stender were inspired to introduce the bill after a Rutgers University senior was allegedly killed by her boyfriend, William Parisio, who happened to be on the powders.

McKeon said, "The recent tragedy is deadly proof of the devastation that can be caused when dangerous drugs are masqueraded as bath salts and are openly available to the public, especially our youth who are the highest users of such hallucinogenic substances." The bill would make it a third-degree crime to manufacture, distribute, dispense or possess products containing mephedrone or methylenedioxpyrovalerone, punishable by three to five years in prison, and up to $15,000 in fines.

Recently, Chuck Schumer also announced a bill to ban the two active ingredients, adding them to the federal list of controlled substances. Of course, not all bath salts include these ingredients. And if you're buying your home spa materials at gas stations and head shops, we're guessing you aren't after the aromatherapy benefits.

Showers for now on I guess!

McKeon isn't going far enough. We should ban oxygen, as it's clear that all crimes are committed by people who have been breathing tons of the stuff. Also, all fires burn thanks to oxygen, so if we banned oxygen, we would be preventing fires. It's the only smart, sensible, right thing to do.

  • moocowstoo

You were contacted but at the time I believe you responded "I'm on a space plane to outer mars where are my girlscout cookies! Oh look at the pretty colors."

And let me tell you, those colors tasted marvelous!
