Mike Kenney A woman was fatally stabbed in the Midtown hair salon where she works and police say that her ex-husband was the one who killed her. According to the Daily News, coworkers heard "bloodcurdling screams" as 41-year-old Denise Kenney "was stabbed repeatedly in a bathroom" at D'Galina's Center Unisex Salon near West 35th Street. And suspect Mike Kenney left "a trail of bloody footprints as he bolted with stolen cash." The salon's owner said, "He looked at me with crazy eyes."
Salon workers say that Denise Kenney and Mike Kenney, 42, an ex-con who has served time for shotgun robberies, were first talking on the ground floor salon but then went upstairs around 1:30 p.m. The Post reports, "[Salon owner Leo] Pinkhasov said he heard arguing, and then saw Michael Kenny come downstairs, grab his wife’s wallet and storm back up to the second floor. Then around 3:30 p.m., there was a blood-curdling scream, the witnesses said. Michael Kenney then reappeared downstairs — with blood all over his shoes, tracking it across the floor, and leaving a smear on the hallway wall.
He then dashed to the cash register and grabbed the money inside and left as the stunned owner, partner Eddie Khai, 42, and stylist Joe Baiada stared in disbelief and fear." Her co-workers found her and called 911; she was pronounced dead at Bellevue Hospital.
The News says that Mike Kenney left his ex-wife threatening messages, such as, "Just remember what I tell you: If you ever leave me, the things I can do to you," and she had a restraining order on him, which he repeatedly violated. Police say that Mike Kenney is 6-feet-1-inch tall and weighs approximately 230 pounds, with blue eyes, blonde hair and a goatee. He was last seen wearing a black wool coat, blue jeans and a blue hoodie. Anyone with information should contact NYPD Crime Stoppers.
