A 25-year-old man was fatally shot early Sunday morning after a fight broke out at the NoCo Lounge on Columbus Avenue and 109th Street. Floyd Miller was shot in the torso and reportedly walked from the bar to Harlem Hospital, where he died shortly after. Local community board member Andrew Albert was surprised at the shooting, saying, "It's a changing street. It's gotten much more gentrified over the years. I am very surprised to hear this. At one point it was drug infested, but the residents have really fought to change that."
Miller reportedly had seven arrests on his record for things like robbery and assault, and investigators are determining whether he was targeted by the gunman. But Miller's mother told the Daily News, "My son was a loving, caring, outgoing person. He was killed for no reason." Police say a fight erupted in the club, causing patrons to spill into the streets. It started as a fistfight, but gunfire broke out while one patron was on the phone with 911.
Miller's girlfriend was distraught upon hearing of his death, and her sister said she feared shootings will become more common. "There's probably gonna be a war out there," she predicted.
