Man Jumps To Death From Roosevelt Island Building

The apartment building
Yesterday afternoon, a man fell from a 15th floor balcony at an apartment building on Roosevelt Island's River Road. A neighbor told the Daily News, "It's horrid. He's facedown on the ground. You could see his socks. I guess his shoes fell off from the impact." And, now, it appears that the man had been smoking Salvia before jumping off the building.

Roosevelt Islander posted a note it received from RI Public Safety Department Director Keith Guerra: "Unfortunately, our island lost a resident this afternoon. A 21 year-old male fell to his death from his balcony at 10 River Road. PSD received the call of a male lying in the street in front of the Gristedes turnaround, and at first it was believed that he may have been hit by a car. Further investigation revealed that he was allegedly smoking Salvia and ran out onto the balcony and jumped. EMS and NYPD were on scene immediately thereafter, and the male was pronounced DOA on the scene. The investigation revealed that it was a suicide, and the body was removed by the NYC Coroner." Salvia is a plant in the mint family; according to the DEA, "The plant material is smoked for the induction of "mystical" or hallucinogenic experiences."

  • It reminds me of the bogus anti-drug propaganda of the Sixties and Seventies, like the Blue Boy episode of Dragnet ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v... ) . "LSD will make you jump off buildings! You'll think you can fly!" It was bullshit then; it's bullshit now.

  • if u dont know wtf you are talking about stfu. Salvia was a legal drug until about a week ago so everyone calling him a addict is a fool. Its scary how ignorant some ppl are and the second they hear someone died and the word drug they automatically assume that they somehow deserved it. Listen to this wasnt a crackhead raping teenagers to score some rock. This was a 21 year old in his prime who used a LEGAL drug when he honestly probably wouldve been better off just smoking weed.

The FDA needs to step their game up. Whether it is legal drugs or legal supplements , the risks need to be evaluated. How can marijuana be illegal when salvia is legal? Whats worse some kids smokin something less harmful and illegal? or something new , untested before the FDA can make it illegal.

How many deaths have ever been attributed to marijuana?

The government really needs to get their priorities in order and figure out how to keep our society out of harms way , instead of worrying about stupid politic bullshit.

O YEA AND FUCK U ROOSEVELT ISLAND RESIDENTS FOR BEING INCOVIENCED ON UR SUNDAY AFTERNOON....FUCKIN SCUMBAGS

WHAT IF THIS WAS MURDER? WHAT If while the police were investigating the case, the killer was driving down main street aND off the island.

Then these idiots living in Roosevelt Island would bitch @ Public Safety about letting a murderer escape and blah blah blah.

Its good Public Safety froze everything in case their was foul play.....

Honestly would u rather walk home?Or have a murderer loose on your island?

I tried salvia many moons ago and it didn't do shit for me. Got it from "reputable" source - shrug.

Well, I suppose that's one step closer to making salvia illegal. People, do your research: it's incredibly hallucinogenic, most people think they're in an different place and walking into/off of stuff is not uncommon. People tend to discount is because it's legal, but it packs a punch. You're never supposed to do it alone, always have a sober friend watching you, close all balconies and windows, and put yourself in a place where you feel safe.

I clicked just to make sure it wasn't Fez.

OK, so Salvia and balconies don't mix. Good safety tip.
