Note to graffiti vandals: if you make your mark with acid (or onto sacred MTA territory) it's going to add some years to your jail time. According to the Daily News, 19-year-old Brooklynite Alexander Thompson etched his tags (GEAR and G7) into a Queens bus shelter with acid and got a 42-count indictment. Yesterday—when it was reported that vandalism was up last year in Queens—he was told he faces four years in prison for damaging 21 glass bus shelters in 2009 (racking up $5,100 in damages during that time).

Queens District Attorney Richard Brown declared, "We will not allow such individuals to mar the beauty of our city" (bus shelters are beautiful, after all), "or threaten to return us to the days when our transit system and our highways and buildings were covered with graffiti."

He's likely referring to the '80s, when the Vandal Squad, Mayor Koch and New York's finest were up against all those kids carrying spray cans—check it out in this video.

19 and tagging. 4 yrs of prison should help.

What I don't get is how shitty most of this graffiti is.

I draw a firm line between what can be considered street art and this subhuman scribbling that just about amounts to marking your territory (that isn't even your territory) by taking a piss in the street.

Give the kids a dedicated wall to go scribble on in a park somewhere, or even better get them into a classroom learning well-presented and interesting material that might one day give them marketable skills.

They should damage his "GEAR" with acid...

  • LazyNanny

Good, lock the dirt bag up and throw away the key.

yeah, making you pay his rent, food bills, ALL of his bills, and giving him free health care will teach him!

just look at how low the recidivism rate is on ex-cons.

they all go straight after jail, right, cuz they're that scared of going back.

you right wingers are even more retarded than I say you are.

do explain why jails should be filled with NON-VIOLENT offenders?

I'd make this creep do 20 hours of community service cleaning the subway tracks and more, for the next 30 years of his life.

saves us billions, earns us billions.

or we could just let him watch cable tv in prison.

your republicans and your entitlement programs.

Bravo to that. Acid-etching is the lowest form of tagging.

  • jibbly

Disagree, the shitty scratch-etching is the absolute lowest form of tagging. Some subway cars used to look like the inside walls of an insane asylum for teenagers...oh wait, that's what subway cars effectivey turn into between the hours of 3-5pm.

guess what: that rampant crime (an 800% crime rate in the subways as every window i saw during the giuliani era had as many as dozens of scratchiti tags on windows) is another reason why the MTA is broke.

they had to replace all the glass.

also, this proves irrefutably they faked the crime stats, as NYC never saw more crime in its history than during the rudy years, and the etching acid and scratchiti alone prove this. (in the Koch years, they just painted over the graffiti. acid and scratchiti are umpteen times worse, which is why the media said over and over daily that rudy decimated crime.

same reason they did a story daily about Bloomberg For President and the palpable buzz in the streets.

the press has ONE job and one job only: to lie to you on behalf of big business and big govt.

even funnier, look up "broken windows" , which Rudy said he swore by (and Bloomberg does too).

it says that, if you see graffiti ANYWHERE in the city, it increases the murder rate and serious crime.

well I'll gladly take Richard Brown out tomorrow and show him tens of millions of graffiti tags and the like.

I only wish these taggers weren't morons.

imagine if every graffiti artist was writing 'Arrest Bloomberg!"

the mayor would already be out of office.

instead, these retards put their names all over everything.

    they're the underground Bloomberg.

I forgot about the scratching... good call.
