Today 14 couples got hitched at the Empire State Building, as is tradition on Valentine's Day (going 17 years strong now). The individual ceremonies began with sunrise at 7 a.m. and are still going on. They're taking place on the 61st floor every 30 minutes, after which time the couple heads up to the Observatory for a photoshoot. The 14 couples won their spots in a contest, and have come from all over the nation, with two from NYC (one from Staten Island and one from Brooklyn).

We'll have a full photo recap tomorrow, but above you can see Long Island couple George "Pie" Callahan and Sarah-Marie Carpino, who met while working as firefighters at Liberty House Company #1 in Lindenhurst, sealing the deal.

and no tourists jumped off the observation deck in protest/disgust?

let the record show that I am motioning for the swapping of 2/14 and 2/29 on the calendar, this valentine's day need to happen only once every 4 years, like the olympics. i had to avoid facebook today because it's just so friggin' disgusting today.

celebrate your love not on valentine's day. celebrate your mom not on mother's day. your dad not on father's day, nor your secretary on administrative assistant's day. love them equally 365 (or 366!) days a year. when will you sheeps wake up to the fact that hallmark commercialized these days so they can make money on a month other than December?

Aside from the view, how is this different from getting married at the Chapel o' Love?

    "Honey when're we getting married?"
    "Don't know sweetie, we're number 8 and they're still on 5..."
