Mubarak Speaks, Isn't Planning On Leaving Until September

As expected Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak gave a televised speech earlier this afternoon, but he confounded predictions he would step down, insisting that he won't be going anywhere until September. In the speech he reiterated that he would not take orders from abroad and praised the "youth of Egypt" who have been protesting in Cairo for 17 days.

"I express a commitment to carry on and protect the constitution and the people and transfer power to whomever is elected next September in free and transparent elections," he said.

According to updates coming in over the wires, the crowds in Cairo are not amused by this development.

Meanwhile if you were curious about Omar Suleiman, Egypt's newly empowered VP and the guy who would replace Mubarak if he did step down, you might find his history as "Egypt's torturer-in-chief" interesting/highly depressing.

these people just won't leave. Bloomberg and Speaker christine Quinn, slush fund Queen, forced a third term on us after we voted for 2 terms. these dicktators just won't leave. we need to driver them out with fork pitches
