Alert: L Train Down!

ltrainalert0211.jpg It's not snowing, sleeting, raining, double-rainbowing... those are clear skies out there! But even a soft breeze is enough to take the L train down. It's so fragile. Currently there are no L trains into Manhattan, according to Brooklyn365, who says Williamsburg's Bedford Avenue platform is now "SWARMED with folks trying to get cabs." You have been warned. We've contacted the MTA—their site claims the L has "good service"—and we'll update when we hear back. If you are encountering any problems out there, send us your notes from the underground.

UPDATE (12:20 p.m.): One reader tells us, "The platform attendant told everyone that the trains were not running... but 2 minutes late an L train arrived right on schedule. The people that left to get a cab were duped." Sounds like a cruel Improv Everywhere prank. Still awaiting official word from the MTA... until then, take your chances.

Sounds like someone woke up before noon and faced the morning rush for the first time.

    Never trust the MTA.

    i still haven't forgiven LMNOP

  • I was on the Manhattan bound L-Train around 10:30 AM when the train stopped at Bedford and we were told it was out of service. There were no announcements made, no explanations, nothing. I overheard an MTA employee mention a power outage. Unless my train's conductor was in on the joke, this wasn't an Improv Everywhere prank.

Chaos below as the buses sped efficiently above as usually to Queensboro Plaza.
Remember the times on the post are accurate within 5 min - the key is, if the bus doesn't come, it's not that it's late, but you who missed it because it was early.
Greatest transportation system in the US of A.

So much hipster and NY transplant hatred. But it's misguided, because we all know this is Bloomberg's fault. That f'in mayor does it again!

  • Rod

you'll notice that every mention of the MTA omits that Bloomturd runs it.

just keep blaming those three letters for your troubles while the Emperor golfs and eats lobster paid for by you!

    ha ha!

Perhaps it's the MTA's revenge for pantless subway rides.

  • clipper321

It must be "National Dupe the Hipster Day." Oh, that MTA...

I attempted to get the L train this morning at Bedford Avenue and found the platform packed with people and a subway train sitting in the station. I ended up having to walk to Marcy Ave to get the JMZ into Manhattan.

  • Rod

no shit... what do you think those last 3 record fare hikes were FOR.

anyone who rides subways DESERVES this

  • JarekAF

    damn, that's a hike . . .

  • I don't believe it you smelly hipster.

  • caroline

they might have better luck catching cabs if they leave the Bedford Ave platform.

  • yetanotherdamneduselessaccount

That train was a fucking nightmare five years ago when I moved from the neighborhood (Morgan). Was getting more crowded by the day. I can only imagine how much it sucks now.

  • Rod

yeah, when I moved to NYC twenty years ago, the subways were filthy, unreliable shitholes.

hundreds of billions later, it's far worse than even then!

everything else that was wrong in 1990 is worse today too.

why do you think Republicans like Bloomturd NEVER use their "quality of life" catchphrase any more

  • Guest

You obvious never took the subway during the early to mid 1980s. During that period there was so much graffiti on subways that you couldn't even see out the windows. The graffiti problem on subways were largely eradicated in 1989.
