Blah Blah NYC vs. LA Blah Blah Blah

0211nycvsla.jpg Lonely Planet is at it again—this time pitting NYC against LA in what would be a laughable battle if we weren't so cold right now, and craving decent Mexican food. The creators of the poll say they are here to put "this historic banter to a test." They do seem to know what they're talking about, in it they include their pick for best city tour: "the elevated purple No 7 subway line across Queens is actually deemed a national historic trail, akin to Lewis & Clark. Going on/off it is one of NYC's classic one-day explorations many miss." You can place your vote here (and seriously, vote—because we totally lost to San Francisco recently and that is not okay).

you can't compare NY to LA

NY is a city. LA is a place.

i was born in NYC and grew up in LA. Most people that I knew growing up (including my parents) and my friends parents were from NYC. Three of my friends in high school were born in Brooklyn and moved to LA when they were in junior high school.

I love both places for very different reasons. What I love about LA is that you can be whoever you want and live whatever lifestyle you want, where as in New York you're pretty much stuck being a New Yorker. I also, feel like most people that are actually FROM LA are great, it's the transplants that ruin it.

What it always came down to with me is the ability to step out of your apartment in NYC and be able to see the entire city easily by foot. That's literally impossible in LA.

Yes, clearly these 10 very well thought-out questions will settle the debate once and for all!

    Barf.

  • New York DESTROYS LA in every way other than weather

    Especially bedbug infestation..

  • The parasites in LA walk on 2 feet

    polls are stupid.
and fuck LA, wait not LA, people from LA

you got some of these total dickwads there thinking they're the best. i mean seriously i had to hide a few "friends" on facebook who wont shut the fuck up about how great LA is.

we have tornado. "OMG theres a nice breeze by malibu beach"
we have snowpocalypse "OMG i am so glad i am not in buried in ice like you new yorks ROFL"
you don't see new yorkers saying "OMG I love NY we have no earthquakes or fires" when those happen.

personally, i think those douchebags need to fall into the San Andreas fault.

and yeah, we have bloomturd. we have MTA. we have shitty weather. rats crawling on the trains, but we take it in like true new yorkers. so fuck ya'll, NYC is not just better, it's the BEST.

  • thinkblue

you realize that like half of LA is made of New Yorkers, right?

  • Liz

Funny. I grew up in NYC and have heard LA trashed my whole life. I move to LA, and (aside from the weather) people have nothing but good things to say about New York (especially cause most are either from or have also lived in NY). You being jealous about the breeze in Malibu doesn't make people from LA "douchebags."

"you got some of these total dickwads there thinking they're the best" - you

"NYC is not just better, it's the BEST. " - you

I lived in Los Angeles for 10 miserable years before I was able to come back home to New York. Calling L.A. a rancid, festering cesspool is an insult to rancid, festering cesspools.

  • kevd

    It goes
    New York
    Chicago.
    Some other stuff
    LA
    A bunch of other stuff
    SF.

  • Noreaster76

Agreed. SF is a hole. A foggy, lame, boring-ass hole. With lame people, might I add.

Dude, and as far as it being cold out these days? It's not even that cold. Heck, it was even above freezing the other day. Take your mild winters, I'll keep exciting weather like this. I mean, heck, has SF or LA ever had thundersnow? I think not.

Reading those poll questions, it is totally okay if we lose.

  • mmheidelberger

    Those are indeed lousy questions...
