Schools Open, But Ice Storm Warning In Effect

The National Weather Service issued an Ice Storm Warning until 9 a.m., and New York City has announced that NYC public schools and government offices will be open today. However, the NYC Office of Emergency Management said, "All New Yorkers should exercise caution and allow extra time for travel. During the peak of the morning rush hour, roads and sidewalks may be slippery and dangerous."

The National Weather Service had said, "Freezing rain mixed with sleet will continue through mid-morning bringing a total of 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch of ice accumulations. Exercise extreme caution when traveling." Also helpful: Tips from the NY Red Cross for Winter Storm Safety & Preparedness.

Yeah thanks for not closing down the public schools, jerks. I personally saw 5 people - 2 adults 3 kids aged 6-11 fall on the walk from the subway to my kid's school this morning.

I saw a bunch more people who'd obviously fallen at some point - half their body/clothes drenched/dirty on one side from where they'd landed.

And I saw a school bus clip a parked car because the corner was near impassable from snow and ice.

Now multiply that by how ever many schools in the city.

    Again, jerks.

Cathy Black's bitchy childishness also came out last night.
Not a good look, of course no one dared say anything because bloombag bought all the media.

  • Hmm..wonder how many students will show up today at school. Could be another flop like a couple weeks ago
