Photos: The 2011 Idiotarod Race

Yesterday, the 8th annual Idiotarod race rolled through Brooklyn, beginning their four hour journey in Bushwick, and ending in Greenpoint with an afterparty at Coco66. Team Disasterpiece were declared "best in show" of the race; they were wearing full-body monster costumes that took them at least a month to make. And according to referee Anney Fresh, “Their cart is modular, they’ve got the bribery down, they have costumes which poke people in the bar. That’s enough for me.”

Team "Mardi Gras", draped in purple, gold and green tights, won the "ex-nemesis" award, for being the team that the judges hated the most; Team "Noble Company" was given "Best industrial design" for their Avatar-like robot suits. Other costumes included a take on "Dick in a Box," black and gold bumble bees, rabbits, flannel-wearing lumberjacks, BP Oil/Fox News, and Black Swan ballerinas; there was also a snowball fight, which ended with the cops giving a ticket to one of the racers. Our own lovely photographer Katie Sokoler joined in on the fun, and told us that despite the snowy roads, people made the most of the day: "People didn't seem bummed about the snow. I think they enjoyed just marching through it, making people smile and talking/taking pictures with people on the street...A fresh direct worker was so excited, he stopped his truck, held up traffic, and hopped out to take a picture with the rabbits."

The Post deserves the final word on the event: "The Idiotarod follows SantaCon and the No Pants Subway ride as the trio of essential hipster events. The season now closes until the next Todd P. event at a soon-to-be-closed Bushwick club."

Hilarious, keep it coming. To those that are upset with this.... I hope that bug up your ass dies.

These idiots are the only ones keeping NY interesting, the rest of you bozos just go to work all day and complain that everyone else is having fun.

Aren't Hipsters supposed to be young or at least youthful? these dudes look like the cast of thirtysomething at their twenty year reunion.
