Mayor Declares Another Weather Emergency

201101_snow.jpg Everybody stay calm! Mayor Bloomberg has gone and announced another weather emergency since today's flurries aren't stopping anytime soon (though they are supposed to taper off before coming back strong just in time for evening commutes). So like last time this means you should avoid any unnecessary driving until the storm is over, don't block roadways or impede plows, and alternate side parking, parking meters and garbage collection are suspended. We were thinking of making some snow angels...

They didn't declare alternate-side parking suspended until 10:30 this morning despite the fact that there was at least 3 inches of snow on the ground. I sat in my car for an hour to avoid getting a ticket and nothing - plow, sander/salt truck, street sweeper, parking agent - came by.

I've been in Manhattan, below 14th St, all day and haven't seen a single plow so far. I hope this means they're clearing the outer boroughs first this time, heh.

  • The outer boroughs have banded together and are plowing the snow INTO Manhattan!

my advice to my fellow gothamites: if you can leave early, GO.

this may get messy in the evening rush, i think they underestimated another storm, did not declare an emergency early and sucked everyone into manhattan to work, and the rush hour back home will have like 6 to 12 inches more snow than your easy morning rush.

at least the on the monday after the christmas blizzard, no one was insane enough to go to work.
