2011 Oscar Nominees Are In, King's Speech Leads With 12

BOOM! With the announcement of nominees today, the Oscar race is on. And who is up to take a gold statue home at the 83rd Academy Awards on Sunday, February 27? For Best Picture the 10 nominees (we're still not used to that number) are Black Swan, The Fighter, Inception, The Kids Are All Right, The King's Speech, 127 Hours, The Social Network, Toy Story 3, True Grit and Winter's Bone.

The Best Actor category is filled out this year by Javier Bardem (Biutiful), Jeff Bridges (True Grit), Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network), Colin Firth (The King's Speech) and none-other than Gothamist favorite and Oscar co-host James Franco (127 Hours). Meanwhile Best Actress nominees are Annette Benning (The Kids Are All Right), Nicole Kidman (Rabbit Hole), Jenifer Lawrence (Winter's Bone), Natalie Portman (Black Swan) and Michelle Williams (Blue Valentine).

You want supporting roles? The nominees for Best Actor in a Supporting Role are Chirstian Bale (The Fighter), John Hawkes (Winter's Bone), Jeremy Renner (The Town), Mark Ruffalo (The Kids Are All Right) and Geoffrey Rush (The King's Speech). And the nominees for Best Actress in a Supporting Role are Amy Adams (The Fighter), Helena Bonham Carter (The King's Speech), Melisa Leo (The Fighter), Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit) and Jacki Weever (Animal Kingdom).

As for the other two biggies, writing and directing, the director nominees are Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan), David O. Russell (The Fighter), Tom Hooper (The King's Speech), David Fincher (The Social Network) and the Coen Brothers (True Grit). The Best Adapted Screenplay nominees are for 127 Hours, The Social Network, Toy Story 3, True Grit and Winter's Bone while the Best Original Screenplay nominees are for Another Year, The Fighter, Inception, The Kids Are All Right and The King's Speech.

And Banksy managed to get his first oscar nomination. His documentary Exit through the Gift Shop was nominated for Best Documentary along with Gasland, Inside Job, Restrepo and Waste Land.

We're still absorbing all of this, but so far we're most surprised to not see Mila Kunis up there for Best Supporting. And despite the controversy we sort of expected Waiting for Superman to get a nomination. Also interesting? After last year's win by Kathryn Bigelow in directing, the category is back to being a sausage fest. And despite his DGA nomination for Inception, no directing love for Chistopher Nolan!
