UWS Bloggers Don't Want Another Duane Reade

megryanuws.jpg Echoing the complaints of Williamsburg locals, residents of the Upper West Side are grumbling at the idea of another Duane Reade moving in to their posh corner of the city. According to the bloggers at (aptly named) MyUpperWest.com, a Duane Reade is moving in to luxury apartment development The Corner, located at Broadway and 72nd Street—which is "disappointing news."

Seriously, they don't even get a beer bar with their new Duane Reade, like those lushes in Brooklyn. Instead, they'll be getting a Look Boutique—which is basically like a Sephora, or whatever.

Always with the glass half full up there, however, the bloggers end their disapproving rant on a hopeful note, saying: "Fingers crossed there is still retail space in The Corner for more needed stores." Such as... ?

What are all you retards complaining about? Duane Reades started out as a mom and pop store in NYC. Its more NYC than any of you transplants.

Who the fuck cares about this. It's clear that NYC, once the beacon of small business is now catering to familiarity.

I say 'whatever'. The city clearly isn't making it easy for the small businessman and prices rule in this world. Too bad.

  • A walk in midtown:

Duane Reade, Starbucks, Chase, Duane Reade, Starbucks, Chase, Duane Reade, Starbucks, Chase...

Presumably, one of them would close. In Astoria, there are two CVS, across the street from each other. As I understand it, the older one will close.

  • "Such as... ?"

Well, since there is already a Duane Reade 1/10th of a mile down the block on 72nd near West End, as compared to 72nd and Broadway... just about anything would do.
