Katherine Heigl and David Letterman "light up" an e-cig on air
With rising prices of cigarettes—and, you know, the health risks that come with puffing them down—some of the city's smokers have turned to e-cigarettes... but those may be banned before the real thing! CBS NY reports that New York could become the first state to ban electronic cigarettes. Assemblywoman Linda Rosenthal of Manhattan says e-cigarettes need to be studied first, and currently carry no warning labels. She's concerned about the nicotine in the vapor-emitting e-cigs, and also that "most are made in China and other countries where the safety of products isn’t well regulated."
However, Hollywood actress Katherine Heigl says that e-cigarettes are perfectly fine! She even smoked one during a Letterman appearance last year (and got the host to take a few puffs as well). She explained, "You blow out water vapor so you're not harming anyone around you and you're not harming yourself. I'm essentially humidifying the space."
A discussion on New York State Assembly's bill, A01468, that would outlaw all sales of electronic cigarettes is scheduled for tomorrow. The Consumer Advocates for Smoke-free Alternatives Association (CASAA) supports a ban on sales to minors, but says “Banning e-cigarette sales to adults also would deny smokers in New York the opportunity to switch to a safer alternative."

I quit smoking tobacco 6 months ago, after 35 YEARS! The first time in my adult life I am smoke-free.... and now you want to ban my e-cig? It's the ONLY thing that worked, we tried EVERYTHING else! Patch, pills, hypno, cold-turkey... now we have something that WORKS and you want to ban it?!! You want to regulate nicotine (a stimulant), then how can you justify Starbucks and other coffee caffeine levels, you can buy a nicotine patch or gum without a prescription! ? I smell Big Tobacco Corps and greedy NY Taxes are in on this ban. How about banning those Outdoor Wood Boilers that are spewing acrid smoke, one is 40 feet from my house! Bassackwards NY State! I can't smoke in the park but I get smoke from my neighbors unregulated OWB pumped into my home 24/7? This is just another reason why leaving NY State makes more sense every day. How many more can you run off with your high taxes and senseless spending? You'll see..
Linda Rosenthal is an ex-smoker.... And we all know how bitter ex-smokers are to active smokers.
Linda Rosenthal has a case of bitter-butthurt and wants to kill our lulz.

While they're at it, I hope they do a study on real cigarettes to determine if they're safe........................................... Oh, wait.

They should be banned for being corny

I understand banning sales to minors and even including warning labels but banning sales to adults is crazy. If we are responsible enough to be charged with crimes for making wrong decisions, shouldn't we be considered responsible enough to make decisions that only effect our own health?
Absolutely ridiculous. They should ban the sales to youth and move on.

Every major city & region has its own e-cig company and local bar-running sales force. The e cigs often appear to be exactly the same, from the 4 different regions I've come across, but the gauge is slightly off so they arn't compatible with one another.
They often leak like crazy (sticky nicotine residue on your thigh through your pocket sucks) if they arn't defective from the get go. I checked 4 NYS cities & traded notes with someone who used to market them out west before getting mine.
Local bodega owners are unclear as to whether atomized cartridges are compatable with the DIY nicotine drops. The eye dropper is laughably imprecise, and you don't actually know how much nicotine you end up with after regular use so its hard to cut back according to a strict quitting schedule.
I hope they actually study the e-cig instead of just banning it. I'd like to try it again, if they can get some quality control.
Sound like you had a pretty poor experiences. I'd recommend checking out http://www.e-cigarette-forum.c... there are 10s of thousands of us there that can offer some guidance. Better hurry though, before NY bans them. :)

I did check there.
Then I did alot of leg work because it seemed like a very pyramid scheemy kind of way to market the same product under multiple shell companies .

God forbid all the smokers they tax to death should stop smoking cigarettes and start using ecigs - then where would the "State" be without sucking off the tit of death?
If they won't ban real cigarettes that actually kill hundreds of thousands of American's every year, why the hell are they pushing to ban these things?
I say its all about money. Taxes, Big Pharmaceutical Companies profits from nicotine replacement therapies, and Big Tobacco's profits from death sticks..... they are all in bed together, don't doubt that!
Study them and ban them if found to be unsafe. There are already hundreds of thousands of e-cigarette users in the U.S. Do you want them all to go back to tobacco cigarettes? If you are looking to protect the publics health, don't do it by banning something that is a less harmful alternative! What is happening to this country!?

All electronic cigarette users and marketers want (more) studies done too - we just don't think banning them is necessary when SO many smokers have quit smoking cigarettes by switching to e-cigs.
There are millions of e-cig users worldwide which means there are millions of us "guinea pigs" all claiming that we've either quit or cut down on smoking tobacco and no longer cough and wheeze the way we did when smoking cigarettes. Our friends and families support the change we've made and banning the sale of e-cigs until long-term studies can be completed, eliminates our right to choose what we perceive as the less harmful alternative.
So a produce that has no tar, no CO2, no smells, no cancer, nothing but water vapor, that's what they're gonna ban? Bastards. http://libertarians4freedom.bl...

Yeah because we do such a great job with that in the US. I love that it has only been a few weeks since the government has been allowed to force a food manufacturer/processor to recall a product. Two thumbs up! I probably get food poisoning once a year.
