A Ridley Howard work Art caper or drunken prank? That's the question surrounding a recent incident in Greenpoint where 34-year-old Jade Uribe fled from a party at a gallery in the neighborhood, with a $1,200 framed Ridley Howard work in hand and a getaway car at the ready. According to the Daily News, this "hipster" was tackled by guests and arrested, but gallery owner Martin Nederpelt wants prosecutors to go easy on Uribe, convinced it was just a drunken prank gone bad.
The Brooklyn DA's office has charged him with felony grand larceny, but Nederpelt says Uribe wrote him a letter of apology and it should all just be forgotten. He told the paper, "He said that he was out of his mind. It was a rough-and-tumble art world sort of thing" (oooh, was a Hamster Nest involved?).
Uribe's blog has been eerily quiet since the incident. His sentencing is February 15th.
