Ted Williams Relapses Before Rehab

twdrphil012011.jpg In just two weeks, Ted Williams went from living in a tent on the side of a road, to internet stardom, to having all of his dreams come true, and now... to rehab. The formerly homeless man with the golden voice has battled numerous addictions in his life, and once he was in the spotlight, he revisited all of his vices. Dr. Phil encouraged him to go to rehab, and he's currently at Origins Recovery Center in South Padre Island, Texas.

Dr. Phil caught up with Williams at Origins, via phone, and says Williams admitted he turned back to drugs and alcohol just days before he checked in. When asked if he got drunk before rehab, he told the talk show host: "I wasn't staggering around in the hallways or anything or behaving badly. I was a little tipsy, a celebratory tipsy. I know that doesn't make sense but you're probably waiting for me to say, 'Yes, Dr. Phil, I got drunk.' I was very composed." He also admitted to smoking pot, and when asked if he did any other drugs, he simply said, "Yes sir."

Today and tomorrow Dr. Phil will be talking to Williams's girlfriend, also an addict.

I would like to say that yes he needs treatment, but at the same time someone should have warn him of a greater addiction "celebrity status" and also idiots like Dr. Phil who used this man for ratings. Before trying to help him "as Dr. Phil" claims. He made a mockery of this man by embarassing him on national TV and others stood by and allowed it to happen. I think Dr. Phil needs to look at his pass and put that on TV for ratings...He has alot of skeletons of his own.

Williams confirms Groucho Marx." I would not join any club that would have me as a member".

In my own experienced opinion, one cannot truly understand the depths of addiction and the grasp unless they have experienced addiction themselves.
Ted will have too many counter-productive influences surrounding him to survive this, including his family, his girlfriend, the media, and his own trodden down sense of self-worth.
The calm "golden voice" is a veneer, a watery surface tension, for the angry man beneath. If you can get him to honestly say who it is he actually hates and despises the most, he will tell you that it is himself. Who does he love and admire most? Himself.
There has been far too much damage done to resurrect. Poor Ted can only survive as an object-lesson.
I sincerely hope the best for Ted.

I applaud Dr. Phil for his dedication, but this is a slow train wreck.

Sobriety takes time and practice. I wish him and anyone else in a similar predicament well. It has to be hell.

  • Why is anyone surprised that this guy relapsed?

Good for Ted Williams....Addiction is addiction...once an addict always an addict. It is in the DNA. Puff the Magic Drangon or Doing the Chase..... it is a terible train ride. Change the conductor to the Big Guy upstairs and the hard core recovery process will begin. Good for Ted Williams.

I have to ask, how does he score all these drugs while running from publicity event to publicity event?

  • TheRealCannibal

If you cant get drugs during a publicity event, youre doing it wrong

You don't wind up in rehab because you didn't use drugs and alcohol to excess...

  • Subduction

As a recovering addict myself, I can say that this is not unexpected.

That's why addicts should go to rehab right away -- same day. If they wait, you increase the chances that they will ultimately not show up, or even OD in a "one last binge" episode.

That's why addicts should be treated by addiction specialists, rather than TV charlatans.

  • TheRealCannibal

Im every addict I know including myself was ROCKED upon entering rehab, its the thing to do. (unless your arrest um, er, prevented that from happening)
